Grammarly sits on more screens than almost any writing tool, and since August 2025 it has been turning that reach into a set of writing agents. G2 reviewers rate Grammarly 4.7 out of 5 across 14,081 reviews, and the agents run inside the same editor and browser extension those reviewers already use. Free users get 100 AI prompts a month; Pro members get 2,000 for a listed $12 per member per month.
It is best for students, professionals and business teams who want feedback, citations and polish where they write, at a low price. Its scope is focused: these agents review and improve drafts rather than plan, write and publish whole articles, and some reviewers report incorrect corrections. We rate it 8.9/10 on our scale. We have not used the agents ourselves; this review draws on Grammarly’s plans page, launch coverage from Tom’s Guide, TechTarget and TechCrunch, and public G2 reviews.
Eight Named Agents Added to Grammarly Docs in August 2025
- Grammarly added eight named agents in August 2025, including Reader Reactions, Citation Finder, AI Grader and Proofreader, inside its new Grammarly Docs editor.
- G2 rates Grammarly 4.7 out of 5 from 14,081 reviews, with writing improvement and ease of use the most praised themes.
- Free includes 100 AI prompts a month; Pro is listed at $12 per member per month with 2,000 prompts plus plagiarism and AI-text detection.
- The parent company renamed itself Superhuman in October 2025, and Enterprise is now sold through the Superhuman Go assistant.
- Against WRITER and Jasper, Grammarly is cheaper and works in more apps, and it focuses on improving drafts rather than unattended content production.
Plans, Launch Coverage and G2 Figures for Grammarly
Grammarly is a mature product with a new agent layer, so the hard figures come from its plans page, launch coverage and G2.
| Fact | Detail | Source and Date |
|---|---|---|
| Agent launch | Agents added to Grammarly Docs: Reader Reactions, Paraphraser, AI Grader, Expert Review, Citation Finder, Proofreader, AI Detector and Plagiarism Checker | Tom’s Guide, August 18, 2025 |
| Free vs Pro at launch | Most agents on Free and Pro; AI Detector and Plagiarism Checker Pro only | Tom’s Guide, August 18, 2025 |
| Reach | Agents set to roll out across the 500,000+ apps and sites Grammarly supports | Tom’s Guide, August 18, 2025 |
| Enterprise timing | Enterprise and Education customers to get agents later in 2025 | TechTarget, August 19, 2025 |
| Rebrand | Company renamed Superhuman after buying the Superhuman email app in July; Grammarly keeps its product name | TechCrunch, October 29, 2025 |
| Superhuman Go | Assistant in the Grammarly extension with Jira, Gmail, Google Drive and Google Calendar context | TechCrunch, October 29, 2025 |
| AI prompt limits | 100 a month on Free, 2,000 per member on Pro, unlimited on Enterprise | Grammarly plans page, 2026 |
| Pro price | $12 per member per month | Grammarly plans page, 2026 |
| Security | SOC 2 Type 2 report covering security, privacy, availability and confidentiality | Grammarly plans page, 2026 |
| User ratings | 4.7 out of 5 from 14,081 G2 reviews; WRITER holds 4.4 from 139 | G2 comparison page, 2026 |
The review count matters more than the star rating. Fourteen thousand reviews means buyers are not choosing an unknown vendor, and the main complaint themes, incorrect corrections and inaccuracy, are well documented. They are useful to keep in mind for the new agents, since they run on the same suggestion engine.
The rebrand matters for procurement. Grammarly is now one product inside Superhuman alongside the Superhuman email client and Coda, and the Enterprise tier is sold through Superhuman Go. Larger buyers should expect the sales conversation to be about the whole suite rather than a writing tool on its own.
Task Specialists That Take a Draft and a Goal
Grammarly’s agents are task specialists. Each one takes a draft and a goal and returns targeted feedback or rewritten text. They run inside Grammarly Docs, which Tom’s Guide described as a distraction-free, AI-native writing surface, and the company has been extending them through its browser extension and apps.
Proofreader, Reader Reactions, AI Grader and the Rest
- Proofreader: inline suggestions on structure, clarity and flow, beyond spelling and grammar.
- Reader Reactions: predicts how a chosen audience will read a message. TechTarget’s example was a marketing director checking how a CEO or sales team might react to a launch announcement.
- Paraphraser: rewrites a passage in an academic, professional, casual or custom voice.
- AI Grader: course-specific feedback and an estimated grade against a rubric.
- Expert Review: subject-matter feedback for academic or professional writing.
- Citation Finder: finds supporting evidence and generates formatted citations.
- Plagiarism Checker and AI Detector: scan for unintentional copying, missing citations and text that reads as AI-written. Both were Pro only at launch.
Superhuman Go
Superhuman Go is the assistant built into the Grammarly extension. It offers writing suggestions and feedback on emails and pulls context from Jira, Gmail, Google Drive and Google Calendar, so it can log a ticket or check someone’s availability while you write. TechCrunch reported plans to draw on CRMs and internal systems as well. Users turn it on with a toggle, and it has an agent store that includes the Proofreader and Plagiarism Checker.
Where the Agents Run
Grammarly Docs is the home for the full agent set, but the company’s bet is distribution. The extension already runs in Microsoft Word, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Jira, Gmail and hundreds of thousands of other apps and sites, and Gartner’s Arun Chandrasekaran told TechTarget that those integrations are central to its strategy. For a buyer, that means agents arrive inside existing workflows rather than in a new tool staff must learn. A sales rep can run Reader Reactions on a proposal in Google Docs, and a support lead can proofread a macro in a help desk, without copying text into a separate window.
Team features sit on top. Pro adds one style guide and one brand tone, Knowledge Share, Snippets and team analytics, while Enterprise lifts the limits on style guides and brand tones and adds ROI reporting and an Effective Communication Score.
Signing Up Free and Installing the Extension
- Create a free Grammarly account or sign in to an existing one.
- Install the browser extension or desktop app, or open Grammarly Docs on the web.
- Open a draft and choose an agent from the agent panel, or toggle on Superhuman Go in the extension.
- For teams, set a style guide and brand tone on Pro, or configure SSO, SCIM and data controls on Enterprise.
Writers Accept or Reject Every Edit and Citation
Everything that ships. The agents propose edits, grades, citations and predicted reactions; the writer accepts or rejects them. Citations should be checked against the source, and an AI Grader estimate is a study aid, not a mark from an instructor. Gartner analyst Arun Chandrasekaran described Grammarly’s pitch as software that understands goals and takes steps for the user, but in practice the steps here are mostly edits inside a document.
Free and $12 Pro Plans With Enterprise by Sales
Grammarly publishes Free and Pro prices; Enterprise goes through sales.
| Plan | Price | Billing | What’s Included | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | None | Spelling, grammar, tone view and most agents at launch | 100 AI prompts a month; no plagiarism or AI-text detection |
| Pro | $12 per member per month | Subscription, free trial offered | Full-sentence rewrites, tone adjustment, plagiarism and AI-text detection, style guide, brand tone, Snippets, team analytics, priority support | 2,000 AI prompts per member a month; 2 user groups |
| Enterprise | Custom quote | Contract through Superhuman Go | Everything in Pro plus proactive AI, SAML SSO, SCIM, DLP, BYOK, audit logs API, ROI reporting, dedicated support | Unlimited AI prompts and user groups |
TechCrunch reported the $12 Pro rate as the price when billed annually, so check the billing period at checkout.
Free Prompts for Students Versus Pro for Plagiarism Checks
- A student or freelancer: Free covers the core agents and 100 prompts a month. Upgrading to Pro for plagiarism checks and 2,000 prompts costs $12 a month, or $144 a year at the listed rate.
- A five-person marketing team: five Pro seats cost $60 a month, or $720 a year, and give the team 10,000 AI prompts a month in total plus a shared style guide and brand tone.
- A 20-person department: 20 Pro seats cost $240 a month, or $2,880 a year. If the team needs SSO, SCIM, audit logs or data loss prevention, it will need an Enterprise quote instead.
Other costs are modest. The main ones are prompt caps on Free and Pro, the move to Enterprise once security controls are required, and the time staff spend checking suggestions that reviewers say are sometimes wrong.
Grammarly AI Agents Compared With WRITER Agent, Jasper Agents and Notion Agent
Most writing agents fall into two groups: assistants that improve what you write, and platforms that generate content for you. Grammarly is firmly in the first group.
| Agent | Starting Price | Free Plan | Main Strength | Main Trade-Off | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grammarly AI Agents | Free; Pro $12 per member per month | Yes | Works in 500,000+ apps with low-cost agents | Suggests edits rather than producing content end to end | Everyday writers, students and business teams |
| WRITER Agent | $29 per user per month, billed annually (reported) | No | Governed enterprise agents for marketing and knowledge work | Enterprise focus and higher cost | Large and regulated companies |
| Jasper Agents | $59 per seat per month, billed annually | No | Brand-governed marketing content across channels | Pricier seats; Trustpilot sentiment is mixed | Marketing teams producing campaigns |
| Notion Agent | $20 per member per month (Business, billed annually) for Custom Agents | Limited | Agents that work across a team’s Notion docs and requests | Only as useful as the content in Notion | Teams that run work in Notion |
Choose Grammarly when the goal is better writing from the people you already have, in the tools they already use, at the lowest per-seat price. Choose WRITER or Jasper when marketing wants agents that produce campaigns, briefs and assets with brand governance. Notion Agent suits teams whose drafts and knowledge already live in Notion. Students, Academics and People Who Write All Day
- Students and academics: the AI Grader, Expert Review and Citation Finder are built for papers and coursework, where policy allows them.
- Professionals who write all day: Reader Reactions and the Proofreader help with emails, proposals and announcements in the apps where they are written.
- Small teams on a budget: Pro at $12 per member per month is one of the cheapest ways to give a team AI writing help with a shared style guide.
- Security-conscious enterprises: SOC 2 Type 2, SSO, SCIM, audit logs, DLP and BYOK make Grammarly easier to approve than many newer tools.
- Teams in Jira and Google Workspace: Superhuman Go adds context from Jira, Gmail, Google Drive and Google Calendar.
Content Teams Wanting Autopilot Articles or Campaigns
- Content teams that want articles written and published for them: look at autopilot writers such as KoalaWriter or Byword.
- Marketing teams that need campaign generation with brand rules: WRITER or Jasper are closer fits.
- Students at schools that ban AI writing tools: check the policy first; analysts noted some schools try to ban these tools outright.
- Writers who want to avoid any automated suggestions: reviewers report incorrect corrections, which experienced editors may find distracting.
- Buyers who need a published enterprise price: Enterprise is quote only and bundled with Superhuman Go.
Editing Scope and Checking Suggestions
- Scope: the agents edit, cite, grade and advise. They do not run a content calendar or publish to a CMS.
- Accuracy: incorrect corrections and inaccuracy are the most cited complaints on G2, so check meaning-changing edits before accepting them.
- Prompt caps: 100 prompts a month on Free can run out quickly when several agents are used on long documents.
- Academic integrity: AI Grader estimates and Paraphraser rewrites may conflict with course rules; use them only where permitted.
- Bundling: Enterprise now runs through Superhuman Go, so confirm what you are buying and what data each connected app can reach.
- Billing period: confirm whether the $12 Pro rate requires annual billing before rolling out seats.
Agents Arrive in the New Docs Editor in 2025
- On August 18, 2025, Grammarly added AI agents to its new Grammarly Docs editor, with most available on Free and Pro.
- On August 19, 2025, TechTarget reported that the agents target professionals and students, with Enterprise and Education access planned for later that year.
- On October 29, 2025, the company rebranded as Superhuman and launched Superhuman Go, an assistant inside the Grammarly extension.
Cheap, Secure and Worthwhile for Most Writers
For most writers, yes. Grammarly scores 8.9/10 on our scale: very easy to start, cheap, well secured and backed by one of the largest review bases in software. The free plan alone gives access to most agents, and Pro at $12 per member per month adds plagiarism checks and a much larger prompt allowance.
Autonomy is where it has room to grow. These agents are reviewers and helpers rather than producers. If you need an agent that researches keywords, writes 30 articles and publishes them to WordPress, a content production tool will be a closer fit. If you need every email, proposal and paper your team writes to be clearer, better cited and closer to the house style, it is hard to beat on price.
Start on Free, test Reader Reactions and the Proofreader on real work for two weeks, and move a team to Pro only if the prompt cap or plagiarism checks become the limit.
Free Agents, the Superhuman Name and Citation Checks
Are Grammarly’s AI Agents Free?
Most launched on the free plan, which includes 100 AI prompts a month. The Plagiarism Checker and AI Detector were Pro only at launch, and Pro raises the allowance to 2,000 prompts per member.
What Does the Reader Reactions Agent Do?
It predicts how a chosen audience is likely to interpret your draft and suggests changes. A common use is checking how executives or a sales team might react to an announcement before sending it.
Is Grammarly Now Called Superhuman?
The company is. It renamed itself Superhuman in October 2025 after buying the Superhuman email app, but the Grammarly product kept its name. Enterprise customers now buy Grammarly through Superhuman Go.
Can Grammarly’s Citation Finder Replace Checking Sources?
No. It locates supporting evidence and formats citations, which saves time, but writers should still open each source and confirm it says what the draft claims.
Is Grammarly Safe for Company Documents?
Grammarly publishes a SOC 2 Type 2 report, and Enterprise adds SAML SSO, SCIM, an audit logs API, data loss prevention, confidential mode and BYOK encryption. Teams handling sensitive material should use Enterprise controls rather than personal accounts.
