Teams created more than one million Custom Agents in the roughly ten weeks between Notion’s beta launch on February 24, 2026 and general availability on May 4. Remote, one of the named customers, reported that its IT agents triage tickets with more than 95% accuracy and resolve over 25% on their own. That is the pitch behind Notion Agent and Custom Agents: agents that sit where a team already keeps its projects and docs, and work on a schedule rather than waiting for a prompt.
Notion Agent is the best fit for teams that already run projects, requests and documentation in Notion and want recurring work such as triage, standups and status reports done for them. Two points to plan for are that Custom Agents need the Business plan at $20 per member per month billed annually, and that credits are tracked per member rather than pooled. We rate it 9.1/10 on our scale. We have not used Notion’s agents ourselves; this review is based on Notion’s product and help pages, published pricing analysis and news coverage.
A Million Custom Agents Built Before General Availability
- More than one million Custom Agents were built during the beta, and Custom Agents reached general availability on May 4, 2026.
- Custom Agents need Business at $20 per member per month billed annually ($24 monthly) or Enterprise; Notion Agent itself is available to all users.
- Business includes 1,500 Standard and 500 Select credits per member each month; extra Notion credits cost $10 per 1,000, and a complex task uses about 25.
- Agents run on schedules or on Slack, email and calendar triggers, and connect to Linear, GitHub, HubSpot and other apps through Notion MCP.
- Notion cites SOC 2 and ISO certifications, audit logs for every agent run and no training on customer content.
Beta Adoption and a Named Customer’s Results
Notion has shared more hard numbers about its agents than most work management vendors, from beta adoption to a named customer’s results.
| Fact | Detail | Source and Date |
|---|---|---|
| Beta adoption | More than one million Custom Agents created during the beta, which began February 24, 2026 with Notion 3.3 | Reworked, May 6, 2026 |
| General availability | Custom Agents reached general availability May 4, 2026; agents were free through May 3 | Reworked, May 6, 2026 |
| Revenue | More than $600 million in ARR, with more than half tied to AI-enabled customers | Reworked, May 6, 2026 |
| Valuation | $11 billion in a $270 million employee tender in January 2026 | Reworked, May 6, 2026 |
| Customer result | Remote’s IT agents triage tickets with more than 95% accuracy, resolve more than 25% autonomously and save about 20 hours a week | Reworked, May 6, 2026 |
| Included credits | Business: 1,500 Standard and 500 Select credits per member per month | Notion Agents product page, viewed October 2026 |
| Extra credit price | $10 per 1,000 monthly credits; $13 per 1,000 annual credits on annual Business and Enterprise plans | UsagePricing, viewed October 2026 |
| Credits per task | About 5 for a simple task, 10 for medium and 25 for complex; about 10 Standard credits per hour of AI Meeting Notes | Notion help center, Custom Agent pricing, viewed October 2026 |
| Credit allowance rollout | Included Standard and Select credits live for new customers October 19, 2026; existing customers move November 2, 2026 | UsagePricing, viewed October 2026 |
| Capterra rating | 4.7 out of 5 from 2,843 reviews of Notion overall | Capterra, viewed October 2026 |
The beta figure tells buyers that building an agent is easy enough for non-technical staff to do in large numbers. The Remote result tells them what a narrow, well-defined agent can achieve: triage with high accuracy and a quarter of tickets closed without a person.
The pricing figures are the other half. A Business member’s 500 Select credits cover about 20 complex agent tasks a month at Notion’s own estimate, so teams that lean on Custom Agents will need Notion credits on top.
Personal Notion Agent Versus Custom Agents
Notion splits its agents into two kinds. Notion Agent is a personal assistant on demand: it inherits the user’s permissions and can search the workspace and connected tools. Custom Agents are team-wide agents that run on schedules or triggers, each with its own permissions.
Building a Custom Agent
According to Notion’s product page, a user describes the agent in plain language and Notion AI builds it. Admins can restrict who is allowed to create agents. Each Custom Agent gets page-level access control, so it only reads and edits the pages it has been given.
Triggers
- Schedules: recurring runs for reports, standups and checks.
- Slack: emoji reactions and mentions, in public channels only for now.
- Email: new messages from specific senders.
- Calendar: an event created, updated or cancelled.
What Agents Do
Notion lists Q&A from Notion and connected tools, task routing and triage, and status reports gathered from recent updates. In Notion Mail, agents can organize, label and draft email and sync it to Notion databases. In Notion Calendar, they can view schedules, find meeting times, create or update events and prepare users for meetings. Reworked’s coverage adds daily standups and inbox management to the common jobs.
Outside Notion, agents connect through Notion MCP to partner apps including Linear, Figma, HubSpot, Ramp, Wiz, Stripe, GitHub, Intercom, Amplitude, Attio and Sentry, and to custom MCP servers for internal tools. Everyday use of connected apps and the API does not consume credits, but running an agent through a connected app or the API uses Notion credits.
Guardrails and What Still Needs a Human
- Audit logs: every agent run is logged.
- Version history: changes an agent makes can be undone.
- Prompt injection protection: Notion detects hidden commands in uploads and flags suspicious links for approval.
- Admin visibility: admins can see every agent in the workspace and its access, and can turn agents off.
People still decide what each agent may read and change, check its output and keep the source pages current. An agent that writes status reports is only as good as the project updates it summarizes.
Per-Member Plans With Credits on Business and Enterprise
Notion sells per-member plans, with AI credits included on Business and Enterprise and optional Notion credits for extra use. Plan prices and credit prices below are from UsagePricing’s tracking of Notion’s pricing page; included credits and credit rules are from Notion’s own pages.
| Plan | Price | Billing | What’s Included | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | None | Notion Agent with a limited trial of Standard credits | No Custom Agents |
| Plus | $10 per member per month ($12 monthly) | Annual or monthly | Notion Agent with a limited trial | No Custom Agents; no Select credits |
| Business | $20 per member per month ($24 monthly) | Annual or monthly | Custom Agents; 1,500 Standard and 500 Select credits per member per month | Credits per member, not pooled, no rollover |
| Enterprise | Custom | Quote | Custom credit amounts, organization-level usage visibility, zero data retention | Set by contract |
| Notion credits | $10 per 1,000 monthly, or $13 per 1,000 annual | Admin-purchased add-on | Used after Standard or Select credits run out | Off by default; annual credits only on annual Business and Enterprise |
Standard credits cover work where Notion picks the model, including Notion Agent on Auto. Select credits cover work where the user picks the model, and all Custom Agents, which draw on their owner’s Select credits by default. When those run out, an agent uses extra credits the admin has assigned, then Notion credits if the admin allows it. Admins can give an agent its own monthly budget, and they get alerts at 80% and 100% of usage.
Credit Math at $10 per 1,000 for Real Workloads
These scenarios use Notion’s published plan prices, its per-task credit estimates and the $10 per 1,000 monthly credit price. Agent workloads are our own illustrative assumptions.
- A 10-person team on Business, annual: seats cost $200 a month and include 15,000 Standard and 5,000 Select credits in total, but each member’s balance is their own.
- A daily standup agent: one complex run of about 25 credits each working day for 22 days uses 550 Select credits, 50 more than its owner’s 500. The extra 50 cost $0.50 in Notion credits.
- A support triage agent: 40 requests a day at about 10 credits each over 22 days is 8,800 credits. After its owner’s 500 Select credits, the other 8,300 cost about $83 a month.
The per-member rule is what makes budgeting take some care. Ten members’ credits cannot be combined to fund one busy agent, so a high-volume agent needs its own budget from Notion credits. Workers, a separate beta feature, are free on Business and Enterprise during the beta, and Notion says they will eventually need credits.
Notion Agent Compared With ClickUp Super Agents, Asana AI Teammates and Rovo
All four put agents inside the tool where work already lives. Notion’s strength is documents and knowledge; the others are built around tasks and tickets first.
| Agent | Starting Price | Free Plan | Main Strength | Main Trade-Off | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Notion Agent | $20 per member per month (Business, annual) for Custom Agents | Limited (Notion Agent trial) | Plain-language Custom Agents with schedules and Slack, email and calendar triggers | Credits per member, not pooled | Docs-heavy teams that run projects in Notion |
| ClickUp Super Agents | $9 per user per month AI add-on on top of a plan | No | Agents across tasks, docs and chat in one workspace | Crowded interface and learning curve | Teams that want one tool for tasks and docs |
| Asana AI Teammates | Included with paid Asana plans; extra requests $0.50 to $0.60 | No | Structured projects, goals and workflows | Small included request pool | Cross-functional project teams |
| Rovo | Included with paid Atlassian cloud plans; extra credits $0.01 | No | Agents on Jira work items and Confluence knowledge | 25 credits per user on Standard plans | Software and service teams on Jira |
Notion is the most flexible of the four for knowledge work and the easiest for non-technical staff to build agents in, which the one million beta agents bear out. ClickUp and Asana are stronger at structured task management, and Rovo is the choice for Jira shops. Compare more in our AI agents for project management and productivity guides.
Teams With Pages and Databases in Notion Today
- Teams that already run projects in Notion: agents work on the same pages and databases, so there is nothing to migrate.
- Internal IT and operations teams: triage agents like Remote’s can classify and close routine tickets.
- Managers who write recurring reports: scheduled agents can gather recent updates into standups and status reports.
- Teams that coordinate in public Slack channels: mentions and emoji reactions can start an agent.
- Security-conscious companies: SOC 2 and ISO certifications, audit logs and zero data retention on Enterprise give reviewers something concrete.
Free and Plus Workspaces Without Custom Agents
- Free and Plus workspaces: Custom Agents need Business or Enterprise.
- Teams that need detailed scheduling: Capterra reviewers suggest dedicated project tools for detailed task scheduling.
- Teams whose work happens in private Slack channels: Slack triggers are limited to public channels for now.
- One high-volume agent on a small team: credits are per member, so the agent will run on paid Notion credits quickly.
- Jira-centered engineering teams: Rovo works directly on their backlog.
Per-Member Credits and Notion Credit Settings
- Per-member credits: Standard and Select balances belong to each member and cannot be transferred or combined.
- Notion credits are off by default: an agent can stop when its owner’s Select credits run out unless an admin turns on Notion credits or assigns a budget.
- Estimates, not rates: 5, 10 and 25 credits per task are Notion’s estimates, and actual use varies.
- API runs cost credits: running an agent through a connected app or the API uses Notion credits, even though everyday API use does not.
- Meeting notes join the meter: AI Meeting Notes start drawing on Standard credits in December, at about 10 credits per hour.
- Workspace organization: reviewers say Notion workspaces get cluttered without governance, which also weakens agent answers.
Custom Agents Reach General Availability in May 2026
- On May 6, 2026, Reworked reported that Notion Custom Agents reached general availability on May 4, after a beta in which teams created more than one million agents.
- UsagePricing reported that Business seats began including Standard and Select credits for new customers on October 19, 2026, with existing customers moving on November 2, 2026.
- Notion’s Custom Agent pricing page says AI Meeting Notes will draw on monthly Standard credits starting in December.
An 8.1 for Teams Whose Work Already Lives in Notion
For teams that already keep their work in Notion, yes. Notion Agent and Custom Agents score 9.1/10 on our scale, with high marks for ease of setup, trust and user sentiment. Building an agent in plain language, triggering it from Slack or email and seeing every run in an audit log is a solid package, and Remote’s 95% triage accuracy shows what a focused agent can do.
The areas to grow are task management depth and the credit model. Notion focuses on docs and knowledge rather than scheduling, and per-member credits mean a busy agent will need its own budget: about $83 a month in our triage scenario. Start with one scheduled agent on the Business plan’s included credits, then decide whether to buy Notion credits.
Plan Requirements and Extra Credit Prices
Which Notion Plan Do You Need for Custom Agents?
Business or Enterprise. Business costs $20 per member per month billed annually, or $24 monthly, and includes 1,500 Standard and 500 Select credits per member each month. Notion Agent itself is available to all users.
How Much Do Extra Notion Credits Cost?
Monthly Notion credits cost $10 per 1,000, and annual credits on annual Business and Enterprise plans cost $13 per 1,000. A workspace admin buys them and must switch them on.
Can Notion Custom Agents Be Triggered From Slack?
Yes. Mentions and emoji reactions in public Slack channels can start an agent, and Notion lists private channel support as coming soon. Agents can also run on schedules, new emails and calendar events.
Does Notion Train Its AI on Workspace Content?
Notion says it does not train on customer content. It also cites SOC 2 and ISO certifications, logs every agent run and offers zero data retention to Enterprise customers.
How Does Notion Agent Compare With ClickUp Super Agents?
Notion is stronger for documents, wikis and plain-language agent building, with Custom Agents on its $20 Business plan. ClickUp starts with a $9 per user AI add-on and is built more around tasks, so teams that need detailed project scheduling may prefer it.
