Virtuous Momentum Score

Our editorial score across six weighted criteria, based on Virtuous Momentum’s published documentation, pricing and public user ratings. How we score

  • Autonomy7.5

Momentum ranks daily outreach, builds donor plans and cadences, drafts emails and logs activity on its own, but Virtuous states nothing is sent until the fundraiser approves.

  • Ease of Setup8.5

Virtuous says connecting email and CRM takes minutes, though access starts with a demo and drafts improve as writing samples are supplied.

  • Pricing Value6.0

Pricing is shared on request, and G2's listing says buyers should contact Virtuous for pricing.

  • Integrations8.5

Momentum syncs with Virtuous CRM+, Salesforce, Blackbaud and Bloomerang plus the fundraiser's email inbox, logging emails, calls and meetings automatically.

  • Trust and Security8.0

Virtuous states SOC 2 compliance and enterprise-level security and keeps a human approving every donor message.

  • User Sentiment7.5

A gift officer at Koinonia Family Services told Virtuous that an email campaign took 20 minutes in Momentum instead of six hours. Virtuous Momentum is built for that kind of gain: each morning it tells major and mid-level gift officers which donors to contact, drafts the message in their own voice, suggests the next step and logs the outcome to the CRM. It never sends a message on its own.

It is best for gift officers at mid-size and large nonprofits, universities and hospitals who want to manage bigger portfolios without losing the personal touch. Points to weigh are pricing shared through sales, results published without baselines, and a deliberately human-approved design that leaves sending to staff. Virtuous acquired Momentum in August 2025, and some users have reported managing up to five times as many donor relationships. We rate it 7.6/10 on our scale. This review is based on Virtuous’s product page, Momentum’s documentation and acquisition coverage as of October 2026; we have not used it ourselves.

Bigger Major Gifts Claimed, Pricing Kept Private

  • Starting price: custom quote; Virtuous publishes no Momentum pricing.
  • Reported results: Virtuous cites a 66% increase in major gift size and a 400% increase in mid-level portfolio size, and users reporting up to 5x more donor relationships.
  • What it does on its own: ranks daily outreach, builds donor plans and cadences, drafts emails and call scripts, adds wealth signals and logs activity to the CRM.
  • What stays human: nothing is sent automatically; fundraisers approve every email and confirm each plan step.
  • Our score: 7.6/10, solid on integrations and human control, with quote-only pricing and a human-approved design that keeps autonomy scores lower.

The headline percentages are strong, and Virtuous could add weight by publishing the baselines, time frames and sample sizes behind them. A 400% increase in portfolio size could mean an officer moved from 50 to 250 donors or from 150 to 750; both are useful, and they are very different. Ask for the case studies behind each figure, including MSU Denver’s, which Virtuous headlines as doubling personalized outreach.

The acquisition is the other fact to weigh. Momentum now has the backing of an established nonprofit software company, which helps on longevity and support. It also means road map decisions sit with a CRM vendor, so organizations on Salesforce, Blackbaud or Bloomerang should ask how long the standalone product and their integration will be supported.

The customer list spans health charities, universities, a children’s hospital and faith-based organizations, from Komen Foundation and Orbis to Radford University and Colorado Christian University. That range suggests Momentum fits any team with assigned donor portfolios, regardless of sector, as long as it has gift officers to act on the suggestions.

Behavioral Science and Generative AI for Gift Officers

Momentum combines automation, behavioral science and generative AI. Its documentation describes three uses of AI: content generation, data analysis and web research, all with a human in the loop.

Connecting Email and CRM

Fundraisers connect their email and CRM, which Virtuous says takes minutes. A live CRM sync keeps donor data current and writes activity back, so emails, calls and meetings are logged without manual entry. Existing users sign in through Momentum’s web app; new organizations start with the Momentum team.

A Gift Officer’s Day

  • Morning priorities: a ranked list of outreach suggestions arrives in the inbox, linked to the donor plan and based on donor behavior, capacity and recent email.
  • Donor plans: each donor gets an engagement plan built from giving history, behavior and external signals; the fundraiser confirms each step.
  • Drafted outreach: emails and replies are drafted in the fundraiser’s voice, trained on writing samples they provide.
  • Cadences and calls: Momentum builds step-by-step outreach sequences, suggests follow-ups and offers call scripts when a phone call is due.
  • Alerts: reminders for birthdays, pledges and stewardship moments.
  • Logging: completed emails, calls and meetings sync back to the CRM automatically.

Donor Intelligence

Momentum adds estimated wealth, net worth, giving capacity and property value signals to donor records. That helps officers spot donors with more capacity than their giving suggests and decide whom to prioritize. The acquisition announcement also highlights early detection of at-risk donors.

A Short Rollout Through Momentum’s Success Team

Based on Virtuous’s product page and Momentum’s documentation, a rollout follows a short path:

  • Start with the Momentum team: new organizations contact Momentum’s success team or book a demo through Virtuous.
  • Connect email and CRM: link each officer’s inbox and the CRM, whether Virtuous, Salesforce, Blackbaud or Bloomerang.
  • Provide writing samples: drafts are trained on each fundraiser’s own emails, so this step shapes quality.
  • Review portfolios and plans: confirm the donor plans Momentum proposes and adjust cadences.
  • Work the daily list: act on morning priorities and let completed activity log back to the CRM.

Nothing Reaches a Donor Without an Officer’s Approval

Everything that reaches a donor. Virtuous states that nothing is sent automatically, and the fundraiser reviews and approves every draft. Officers also decide which suggestions to act on, hold the actual conversations and meetings, and confirm plan steps. Momentum shortens the path from data to action; it does not take the action itself.

Contact-the-Vendor Pricing on G2

Virtuous does not publish Momentum prices, and its G2 listing says buyers should contact the vendor for pricing tailored to their goals.

Capacity Gains for an Officer Running Email Campaigns

Without published prices, the useful math is time and capacity. These scenarios use Virtuous’s reported examples; the workloads are our own illustrative assumptions.

  • An officer running four email campaigns a month: if each drops from six hours to 20 minutes, as in Koinonia’s example, that saves about 22.7 hours a month, more than half a working week.
  • A major gift officer with a 150-donor portfolio: the up-to-5x claim would mean managing as many as 750 donor relationships. Treat that as a ceiling, not a forecast.
  • A team comparing quotes: divide the annual price by the number of officers using it and by the hours saved per officer; that per-hour figure is the cleanest way to compare Momentum with rivals that also quote privately.

Ask whether wealth data, the number of connected mailboxes or the size of your donor file changes the price, and whether moving to Virtuous CRM+ is expected over time.

Virtuous Momentum Compared With Blackbaud Development Agent, Version2 and Bonterra Que

The main split among nonprofit fundraising agents is whether the AI contacts donors itself or prepares work for a person to send.

Bonterra QueCustom quoteLimitedSkills across fundraising, grants and case managementBonterra customers only; staff approve every actionEveryAction and Network for Good users

Momentum helps the humans you already employ do more. Blackbaud’s agent and Version2 add a virtual fundraiser that works donors no person covers. Bonterra Que is closest in philosophy, with human approval on every action, but only runs inside Bonterra software. Momentum’s advantage is reach across CRMs: it works with Salesforce, Blackbaud and Bloomerang as well as Virtuous.

The choice usually comes down to staffing. An organization with five gift officers and 1,500 assigned donors gets more from a copilot that helps each officer cover more ground. An organization with two officers and 20,000 unassigned donors needs something that contacts people without waiting for staff, and that points to an autonomous agent, with the added governance work that brings. Some institutions may end up running both: Momentum for assigned portfolios and an autonomous fundraiser for everyone else. For more options, see our AI agents for nonprofits and email guides.

Mid-Level and Major Gift Officers on Major CRMs

  • Major and mid-level gift officers: the product is designed around their daily portfolio work.
  • Organizations on Salesforce, Blackbaud or Bloomerang: Momentum works standalone with these CRMs.
  • Virtuous customers: a native CRM+ integration is in development.
  • Teams buried in CRM data entry: automatic logging of emails, calls and meetings removes much of it.
  • Universities and hospitals: Montclair State, Radford and Phoenix Children’s are named customers.

Shops Without Gift Officers or Wanting Autopilot

  • Organizations that want AI to contact donors directly: Momentum always waits for a person to send.
  • Small shops without dedicated gift officers: the value comes from portfolio management.
  • Buyers who need list prices to budget: every deal is quoted.
  • Teams on a CRM outside Virtuous, Salesforce, Blackbaud and Bloomerang: confirm support first.
  • Organizations wary of wealth screening: Momentum adds wealth and capacity estimates to records by design.

Percentages and the Baselines to Ask For

  • Results to put in context: the 66%, 400%, 17% and 43% figures are published without time frames or sample sizes, which Virtuous could add.
  • Copilot, not autopilot: capacity gains depend on officers acting on suggestions every day.
  • Ownership change: since August 2025 Momentum belongs to Virtuous; ask about standalone support for other CRMs.
  • Wealth data: estimated net worth and property signals are sensitive; set internal rules on who sees them and how they are used.
  • Voice training: drafts depend on the writing samples you provide, so stronger samples produce stronger drafts.
  • Security detail: SOC 2 is vendor-stated on the product page; request the report during procurement.

Also check how the CRM sync behaves when officers edit records in both places, which fields Momentum writes back, and whether drafted emails and donor plans stay in your CRM if you later stop using the product. Those answers decide how much work a future switch would take, and they matter more for standalone customers than for organizations already on Virtuous.

Virtuous Buys Momentum in August 2025

A Strong Candidate for Spreadsheet-Bound Gift Officers

For gift officers who are drowning in data entry and spreadsheets, it is a strong candidate. Virtuous Momentum scores 7.6/10 on our scale: good integrations across four major nonprofit CRMs, a human in control of every donor message and vendor-stated SOC 2 compliance, with unpublished pricing and a human-approved design that scores lower on autonomy than agents that solicit on their own. The Koinonia example, six hours cut to 20 minutes, shows the type of gain to expect.

Whether it pays off depends on your team. If you have officers with full portfolios and too little time, Momentum’s daily priorities and drafts can stretch their capacity. If you have thousands of donors and no one to work them, an autonomous agent such as Version2 or Blackbaud’s Development Agent addresses that problem more directly. Ask for a pilot with a few officers, measure contacts and gifts against the prior year, and get the price in writing.

Two questions belong in every Momentum evaluation: how the price scales as more officers join, and what happens to the standalone product for non-Virtuous CRMs over the next few years. Good answers to both make it an easy recommendation for portfolio-based fundraising teams.
