On Weave’s first-quarter 2026 earnings call, a Florida dental practice was cited as cutting missed calls by roughly 80% after switching on the company’s AI receptionist. Weave, a patient communications platform used at more than 40,000 customer locations, sells an AI agent that answers calls and texts, books appointments and takes payments for dental and other healthcare practices.
The agent’s roots are in TrueLark, an AI front-office startup Weave agreed to buy in May 2025 for $35 million.
How It Works
The AI Receptionist picks up calls and texts around the clock, answers common questions such as office hours and accepted insurance, books appointments directly in qualified practice management systems and collects payments. When a patient needs a person, it transfers the conversation with context so the patient does not repeat themselves.
In May 2026, Weave released an enterprise-grade omnichannel version built on Google Cloud’s Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform. It keeps context across phone and text, and practices can deploy it on the main line, as overflow, after hours or for specific call types, with their own escalation and emergency rules. Calls are transcribed and scored for sentiment. Weave also sells insurance eligibility checks and call coaching, and a version for veterinary offices is listed as coming soon.
Pricing
Weave does not publish prices for the AI Receptionist or its plans. Practices get a quote through sales. ADA members get discounts and extra training through the ADA Member Advantage program. Multi-location groups and dental support organizations can buy an enterprise version.
What to Watch Out For
The receptionist is part of the Weave platform, so it suits practices willing to run their phones and patient messaging through Weave. Booking requires an authorized integration with a qualified practice management system; confirm yours is supported. Results quoted by Weave come from individual customers. Ask for a BAA, set clear rules for clinical emergencies, and review how cancellation and fee messages are worded before going live. Weave said on its earnings call that one dental office found patients warned about cancellation fees by the AI chose to keep their appointments, which shows how much the wording matters.
