Half of the 100 largest US accounting firms, including members of the Big Four, use Fieldguide, according to the company, and in February 2026 Goldman Sachs led a $75 million investment that valued it at $700 million. The San Francisco company, run by former CPA Jin Chang, builds AI agents that work as part of an audit or advisory engagement team.
Its agents take the high-volume, repeatable parts of an engagement, such as testing controls and pulling evidence, and leave judgment and sign-off to auditors.
How It Works
Field Agents for testing run in four steps. The auditor sets the context, choosing which documents to include and which column holds the test procedures. The agent maps documents to procedures, checks whether each document passes or fails, cites its evidence and gives an overall determination for the control. Firms can run this step by step, pausing after each stage, with one click, or automatically when a document is uploaded or a request changes status. Separate agents handle general procedures and sample testing.
In June 2026 Fieldguide added Field Orchestrator, a longer-running agent for end-to-end substantive testing. It reads the engagement context, drafts a multi-step plan for the auditor to approve, then delegates population analysis, sample selection, evidence collection, testing and workpaper generation to other agents, pausing for human review. Reviewers validate and sign off in the Agent Review Experience, and Field Board shows human and agent work side by side.
Pricing
Fieldguide does not publish prices, and there is no free plan. Firms buy through its sales team, with deployments scoped by practice area, as in Cherry Bekaert’s rollout across financial audit, internal audit and SOC work.
What to Watch Out For
The agents rely on clean inputs: control testing sheets must be set up to Fieldguide’s requirements before they work. Auditors remain responsible for conclusions, so firms need clear policies on what agents may determine and how evidence is reviewed. Fieldguide gave no general availability date for Field Orchestrator when it was announced. On security, Field Agents hold AIUC-1 certification, audited by Schellman, alongside SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 42001.
