Alexi Score

Our editorial score across six weighted criteria, based on Alexi’s published documentation, pricing and public user ratings. How we score

  • Autonomy8.0

Alexi produces full research memos on its own and runs multi-step workflows such as hearing and trial readiness checklists, with lawyers verifying citations and making filing decisions.

  • Ease of Setup8.8

A 7-day free trial needs no credit card and the web app requires no installation; the pricing page routes buyers through a guided consultation.

  • Pricing Value7.0

Subscriptions are quoted per seat rather than published, with a free trial and the same AI at every firm size.

  • Integrations7.3

iManage is the connector named on Alexi's pages, alongside document uploads and a single-tenant deployment option; more named connectors would widen its fit.

  • Trust and Security8.8

Alexi lists SOC 2 certification, AES-256 encryption and a single-tenant private environment.

  • User Sentiment9.3

Capterra rates Alexi 4.9 from 7 reviews, weighted for the small sample and one reviewer's request for refreshed citations.

Alexi is a litigation-focused AI platform that turns a legal question into a cited research memo in seconds or minutes and runs prebuilt workflows for hearings, discovery and trial preparation. It is best for solo litigators and small to mid-sized litigation firms in the US and Canada that want faster research without an enterprise contract. Alexi says users save an average of five hours a week and that it tied for first in single-jurisdiction legal analysis accuracy in an evaluation by Vals.

Two points are worth knowing up front. Alexi shares pricing on request, so you start with a 7-day free trial and a sales conversation, and its access to caselaw is the subject of a lawsuit with Clio, which now owns vLex and Fastcase. We rate it 8.1/10 on our scale. This review is based on Alexi’s published pages, press releases and public reviews; we have not used the product ourselves.

Cited Memos, Litigation Workflows and a Seven-Day Trial

  • Starting price: Custom quote per seat; a 7-day free trial requires no credit card.
  • What it does: Cited research memos plus workflows such as Final Hearing Readiness, Discovery and Disclosure and Trial Readiness checklists.
  • Vendor figures: Five hours saved per lawyer per week on average, routine tasks cut by up to 80% and 80% user retention at three months.
  • Open question: In January 2026 Alexi filed antitrust counterclaims against Clio, vLex and Fastcase after Clio moved to cut off its caselaw access.
  • Our score: 8.1/10, with room to grow through published pricing and more integrations.

Figures From Alexi’s Pages, Funding and Court Filings

Alexi is a small, specialist company, so the useful numbers come from its own pages, its funding announcement and its court filings. Each figure below was checked on the source page.

For a buyer, the accuracy and retention claims are the most relevant figures, since they speak to whether lawyers keep using the tool after a trial. Treat them as Alexi’s own numbers. Vals publishes legal AI evaluations, and asking Alexi for the specific report and task set is a fair request during a demo.

The litigation row matters just as much. Alexi’s product rests on primary caselaw, and its press release says Clio sought to cut off its access to that data after buying vLex and Fastcase. Alexi calls those claims baseless; until the dispute is settled, firms adopting Alexi may want to ask how its research coverage is sourced.

Research Answers and Repeatable Litigation Checklists

Alexi is a web application built around two jobs: answering legal research questions and running repeatable litigation workflows. Both are designed for litigators, and the company lists general litigation, personal injury and family law among the practice areas it covers.

Research Memos

  1. Ask the question. A lawyer types a legal issue, usually framed around a jurisdiction and a set of facts.
  2. Alexi researches. The system searches primary caselaw and draws on millions of previous answers to legal questions, according to the company.
  3. Get a memo. It returns a structured memo with cited authority in seconds or minutes.
  4. Verify and use. The lawyer checks the authorities, refines the question if needed and moves the analysis into a brief or advice letter.

Reviewers on Capterra describe the memos as fast to generate and say the cited authorities are reliable, with one noting that getting the exact output you want takes practice.

Agents and Workflow Automations

Alexi introduced a workflow library in September 2025, and its product pages now group these features under Agents and Workflow Automations. Prebuilt workflows include a Final Hearing Readiness Checklist, a Discovery and Disclosure Checklist, a Trial Readiness Checklist and a general transcript workflow, alongside document summaries. Each runs several steps over the documents in a matter rather than answering a single question, which is where Alexi claims routine work drops by up to 80%.

Integrations and Deployment

Alexi says the platform connects to firm systems and learns through use, and its pages show an iManage connector. Firms that want their data isolated can choose a single-tenant private environment, and Alexi has published a customer story about KMSC Law deploying the platform in a private cloud.

Citation Checks and Strategy Remain the Lawyer’s Job

Alexi drafts and organizes; it does not file anything or make strategic calls. Lawyers decide which questions to ask, verify every citation, confirm that cases have not been overturned and own the final work product. One Capterra reviewer asked for memos that are updated continuously to confirm cited rulings remain good law, which is a reminder that citator checks still belong to the lawyer.

Per-Seat Quotes With the Same AI at Every Firm Size

Alexi sells per-seat subscriptions and does not publish prices. The company says its AI is the same for every firm size and that tiers differ only by seat count. Its pricing page routes buyers to a guided trial booked through a consultation.

A Five-Litigator Firm Against CoCounsel’s Published Rate

Because Alexi quotes every deal, the most useful way to frame cost is against published or reported rival prices and against Alexi’s own time savings claims.

Five-litigator firm benchmark. CoCounsel Legal is reported at about $784 per attorney a month on a one-year term, which comes to $3,920 a month or $47,040 a year for five lawyers. Clio Work launched at $199 per user a month, or $995 a month and $11,940 a year for the same team. Alexi’s quote is worth comparing against both figures.

Two-lawyer practice. At the same rival rates, two seats would cost $1,568 a month on CoCounsel Legal or $398 a month at Clio Work’s launch price. Small practices should ask Alexi for a written per-seat figure after the trial and compare it on that basis.

Measuring payback. If Alexi’s claim of five hours saved per lawyer per week held for a five-lawyer firm, that would be 1,300 hours a year. Treat that as an upper bound and track your own time on comparable research tasks during the trial week.

Hidden and variable costs. A single-tenant deployment is quoted separately. You will still need a citator to confirm cases remain good law, and the lawsuit with Clio could change how caselaw is sourced in the future.

Alexi Compared With CoCounsel Legal, Lexis+ With Protégé and Clio Work

These are the research-led AI tools most litigators will weigh against Alexi. CoCounsel and Protégé come from the two largest legal publishers, and Clio Work is built by the company now suing Alexi.

Clio WorkCustom quote (launched at $199 per user a month)NoResearch grounded in vLex content and Clio matter dataCurrent pricing not publishedClio Manage users

Alexi’s pitch against the publishers is focus and firm size. It is built for litigators at smaller firms, offers a free trial and claims top-tier accuracy in a third-party evaluation, while CoCounsel and Protégé bundle AI with research libraries many firms already pay for. Clio Work is the obvious choice for firms that run their practice on Clio. More options are on our law firm agents page.

Pricing transparency cuts both ways in this group. None of the four publishes a current per-seat price, so the realistic comparison is a trial on the same set of research questions. Give each tool three recent issues from your own matters, time how long it takes to reach a usable answer, and count how many cited authorities survive a citator check. That test says more about fit for a litigation practice than any vendor benchmark, including the Vals result Alexi cites.

Solo Litigators and Small Firms Wanting the Full Product

  • Solo litigators and small firms: Alexi says its AI is the same at every size, so a small firm gets the full product rather than a stripped-down tier.
  • Litigation teams with repeat preparation work: the hearing, discovery and trial readiness workflows target tasks that recur on every matter.
  • Firms without a premium research subscription: one Capterra reviewer said their firm moved to Alexi from larger research providers over price.
  • Firms using iManage: the documented connector brings matter documents into Alexi’s workflows.
  • Firms with strict data rules: the single-tenant option and SOC 2 certification answer common security questionnaires; see also our legal agents page.

Transactional Teams and Westlaw Subscribers May Start Elsewhere

  • Transactional and contract teams: Alexi is built around litigation; contract drafting tools such as Spellbook fit that work better.
  • Firms committed to Westlaw or Lexis: the publishers’ own AI tools sit on content you already license.
  • Clio-centric practices: Clio Work connects directly to Clio Manage matter data.
  • Buyers who need published prices: every Alexi deal is quoted.
  • Plaintiff firms that want intake and demand letters: tools such as Eve or EvenUp cover those workflows directly.

The Clio Lawsuit and Caselaw Supply

  • The Clio dispute: Alexi’s research depends on primary caselaw, and Clio brought breach of contract claims after buying vLex and Fastcase. Ask Alexi how its coverage is sourced and what happens if access changes.
  • Vendor metrics: five hours saved per week, 80% retention and the Vals result all come from Alexi. Run the trial on real matters and compare.
  • Citation checks: lawyers still need to confirm that cited rulings have not been overturned.
  • Integration list: iManage is the connector named on Alexi’s pages, so confirm support for your document and practice management systems.
  • Small review base: 7 reviews on Capterra is a narrow sample, though all are positive.
  • Quote-only pricing: get the per-seat figure and renewal terms in writing before rolling out to the whole firm.

Counterclaims Against Clio, vLex and Fastcase in 2026

On January 16, 2026, Alexi filed counterclaims in federal court against Clio, vLex and Fastcase, alleging that Clio’s acquisition of vLex, one of three comprehensive US caselaw databases, violates Section 7 of the Clayton Act and that Clio used breach of contract claims to cut off Alexi’s access to caselaw. These are Alexi’s allegations, not findings by a court.

In September 2025 Alexi introduced its workflow library. On June 7, 2024, the company raised an $11 million Series A led by Drive Capital, with Draper Associates participating and Drive Capital partner Chris Olsen joining the board.

A Trial Worth Running for Small and Mid-Sized Litigators

For litigators at solo, small and mid-sized firms who want fast, cited research and a set of preparation checklists without an enterprise publisher contract, Alexi is worth a trial. It scores 8.1/10 on our scale. Security credentials are solid for a company of its size, public reviews are positive, and the free trial lets you test it on live matters before any sales negotiation.

Two things shape the score. Prices are not published, which makes budgeting harder than with tools that list a per-seat rate, and the dispute with Clio leaves its caselaw supply as an open question. If your firm already pays for Westlaw or Lexis, CoCounsel or Protégé may be the natural comparison. If not, run Alexi’s 7-day trial on three or four recent research questions, check every citation and ask for a written quote.

Questions Lawyers Ask Before Trying Alexi

How Much Does Alexi Cost?

Alexi does not publish prices. It sells per-seat subscriptions where tiers differ by number of seats, and buyers get a quote after a guided trial. A single-tenant private deployment is priced separately.

Does Alexi Have a Free Trial?

Yes. Alexi offers a 7-day free trial with no credit card required. The pricing page routes you to book a guided trial with a product specialist.

What Is the Lawsuit Between Alexi and Clio About?

Clio, which acquired vLex and Fastcase, brought breach of contract claims against Alexi. In January 2026 Alexi filed counterclaims alleging the vLex acquisition was anticompetitive and that the claims were designed to cut off its caselaw access. The case was ongoing when this review was written.

Is Alexi Secure Enough for Client Data?

Alexi lists SOC 2 certification and AES-256 encryption, and offers a single-tenant private environment. Firms should still review its security documentation and confirm how client documents are stored and retained.

Can Alexi Replace Westlaw or Lexis?

Some firms use it in place of larger providers, according to a Capterra reviewer, but it is mainly a research and workflow assistant. Lawyers still need a reliable way to confirm that cited cases remain good law.
