Betsy is Better’s voice AI loan agent, and it has more public volume data than almost any agent in mortgage lending: 1.89 million calls in 2025, close to 100,000 a month, with 35.5 percent of inquiries handled from start to finish. Better credits it with a 41 percent drop in average cost to originate and a doubling of lead-to-lock conversion that year.
Other lenders can get Betsy by licensing Better’s Tinman platform and launching a branded version. That suits consumer-direct and retail lenders ready to move origination onto Tinman. Lenders who want to keep their current loan origination system may prefer a standalone voice vendor. We rate it 7.7/10 on our scale; review sites do not rate it, so sentiment sits at neutral.

The 35.5 percent figure is the most useful for a lender modeling Betsy. It means about one in three borrower inquiries needs no person at all, while two in three still reach a loan officer or processor. The 1,666 hours saved each month across Better’s team gives a sense of scale: roughly ten full-time loan officers’ worth of phone time.
The cost and conversion results are Better’s own and mix Betsy with the rest of Tinman, so they describe the platform as much as the voice agent. They come from a lender that built both, which is the best case for a partner.
How Betsy Works on a Borrower Call
Betsy has two parts: Tinman, Better’s loan engine, which computes eligibility and pricing, and ElevenLabs’ agent platform, which handles the voice. Better says there are no unsanctioned decisions; Tinman decides and Betsy communicates.
Eligibility and Pricing
A borrower calling about a refinance gives Betsy the basics. Tinman checks eligibility and returns rate options, searching more than 26,000 product and investor combinations. Betsy explains the options in plain speech and can suggest rate optimizations. A single conversation can trigger dozens of Tinman tool calls in the background.
Consent-Gated Steps
Some steps are regulated. Credit pulls, rate locks, identity authentication and transfers to a human require borrower consent, and they follow state licensing rules. Betsy asks before each step, and the action runs only after the borrower agrees.
Status Updates and Memory
Betsy answers status questions and moves applications forward around the clock. It recalls a borrower’s earlier interactions across sales and operations, so when it hands a call to a loan officer, the history goes with it.
Help for Loan Officers
Inside the team, Betsy can resolve debt-to-income issues by pulling loan file facts and guidelines, recommending solutions and drafting the message to the borrower. A loan officer stuck on a DTI ratio gets options in minutes.
The Voice Stack
Better began with a speech-to-speech model and moved to a pipeline of speech-to-text, a language model and text-to-speech for better latency, control and reliability. It adopted ElevenLabs Agents in June 2025. The voice is a licensed, consented clone.
The Tinman Platform Underneath
Tinman centralizes documents and pricing, processes borrower data and pre-fills fields from completed tasks. Better says borrowers on the platform see rate options in seconds, get pre-approved in minutes and can close in as little as three weeks. Its One Day Mortgage program, launched in January 2023, takes eligible borrowers from application to commitment letter within 24 hours. Tinman is modular and API-accessible for lenders and brokers nationwide, and it covers conforming, FHA, VA and jumbo loans, plus home equity products.
What Better Is Adding Next
Better has said it will extend outbound calling to new states and lead sources, trigger outreach to past borrowers when market rates change, and add support after rate lock so borrowers get help completing funding tasks. CEO Vishal Garg describes the goal as a full-stack AI loan officer, processor, underwriter and closer. Those are plans, so partners should price what runs today.
A Refinance Call, Step by Step
A homeowner calls at 9 p.m. after seeing rates fall. Betsy confirms the loan goal and basic details, Tinman runs eligibility, and Betsy reads back three rate options. The borrower wants to lock. Betsy asks for consent to pull credit, the pull runs, and Tinman confirms the rate. Betsy asks for consent to lock, locks the rate, and explains next steps and documents. The next morning a loan officer sees the call history and the locked loan in the queue.
What Stays With People
About two-thirds of inquiries still involve a person. Complex files, borrowers who ask for a human and decisions outside Tinman’s rules go to loan officers, processors and underwriters. Licensing obligations remain with the lender.
Betsy Pricing Through Tinman Licensing
Better does not publish prices. Betsy comes with Tinman, which lenders license.
| Offer | Price | Billing | What’s Included | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tinman AI platform | Quote-based | Partner agreement | Digital application, pricing, eligibility, documents, APIs | Lender moves origination onto Tinman |
| Branded voice agent | Quote-based | Partner agreement | Betsy-based voice agent on ElevenLabs, with Tinman integration | Runs on Tinman only |
| Home equity and reverse products | Quote-based | Partner agreement | HELOC and HELOAN origination on Tinman, as with Finance of America | Product scope agreed with Better |
What the Published Results Imply for a Partner
Take a lender with 20,000 borrower inquiries a month. If a Betsy-style agent handled 35.5 percent end to end, about 7,100 inquiries would need no person. At an average of 10 minutes of loan officer time each, that frees about 1,183 hours a month. At a loaded cost of $50 an hour, that is about $59,000 a month. These are illustrative inputs; actual automation depends on the lender’s mix.
Run the same math at a smaller lender. With 4,000 inquiries a month, 35.5 percent is 1,420 automated inquiries, about 237 hours of loan officer time at 10 minutes each, or roughly $11,800 a month at $50 an hour. The platform fee has to fit inside savings like these plus any lift in conversion.
Conversion is the other lever. Better says lead-to-lock doubled in 2025. Even a fraction of that at a partner, such as a 10 percent lift on 200 locks a month, adds 20 locked loans, which for most retail lenders is worth more than the time savings.
The bigger cost is the platform move. NEO Home Loans switched from Encompass to Tinman. Budget for migration, training and a period of running both systems.
Betsy Compared With Kastle, Sei AI and Structurely
| Tool | Starting Price | Free Plan | Main Strength | Main Gap | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Betsy by Better | Quote-based | No | Prices and locks loans by phone on a full origination platform | Requires Tinman | Lenders ready to adopt Tinman |
| Kastle | Quote-based | No | Servicing calls, payments and collections inside ICE MSP | Servicing focus | Large servicers |
| Sei AI | Quote-based | No | Voice agents across origination and servicing with Encompass, Calyx and MeridianLink | No public pricing | Lenders keeping their LOS |
| Structurely | $499/month plus credits (reported) | No | Lead follow-up and qualification | No pricing engine | Loan officer teams with online leads |
The decision often hinges on the loan origination system. A lender happy with Encompass will find Sei or Kastle easier to add, since they connect to existing systems. A lender that already wants to replace its LOS can get Betsy as part of that change, which is how NEO Home Loans approached it.
Betsy can quote and lock because it sits on a pricing engine. Kastle and Sei work on top of a lender’s existing systems, which is easier to adopt but means pricing and locks depend on those systems. Structurely nurtures leads before they reach a loan officer. See our mortgage and lending agents and voice agents pages for more.
Lenders Who Fit Betsy
Consumer-direct and retail lenders looking to replace an older origination stack fit best. They get the voice agent and the engine that makes it useful together, along with the pricing data Betsy needs to quote and lock on the first call.
Lenders adding new products quickly also fit. Finance of America used Tinman to start offering HELOCs and HELOANs without hiring new teams or building infrastructure.
Growing retail teams can use NEO Home Loans as the reference. Better reports that funded loans per underwriter rose nearly 50 percent and per processor 17 percent, while sales cost per funded loan fell 23 percent and operations cost 29 percent. NEO also onboarded 32 new teams and grew its run rate from $1.5 billion to $2.6 billion. Better notes these results come from internal data and may vary by organization.
Lenders who want speed on simple loans also fit, since Betsy can price and lock on a first call outside business hours, when many borrowers shop.
Lenders Who May Prefer a Standalone Agent
Lenders committed to Encompass or another LOS may find a vendor such as Sei AI easier to add. Servicing-heavy organizations may get more from Kastle.
Lenders who need servicing calls covered, such as payments, escrow and collections, will find Betsy’s public results center on origination. A servicing-focused vendor may fit that work better.
Small brokers who mainly need lead follow-up may find Structurely closer to their needs and budget.
Platform Change, Consent and Data Questions
Adopting Betsy means adopting Tinman. Treat it as an LOS decision with a migration plan, not a phone tool.
Consent steps protect the borrower and the lender, but the lender remains responsible for state licensing and records. Confirm how consent is stored and audited.
Voice quality and disclosure matter too. Betsy uses a licensed, consented cloned voice, and lenders should decide how the agent identifies itself as AI on each call and how borrowers reach a person when they ask.
Results at a partner will differ from Better’s own. Better built Betsy for its own funnel, products and borrowers, and a partner’s lead sources and loan mix may produce lower automation rates in the first months.
Better could publish partner pricing, security certifications and data ownership terms. Ask for them early, since a partner’s borrower data will live on Better’s platform.
Betsy’s 2025 Results and New Tinman Partners
On October 14, 2025, Finance of America partnered with Better to offer home equity products on Tinman and build its own Betsy. On January 22, 2026, Better reported that NEO Home Loans loan officers saw 91 percent more funded loans six months after moving to Tinman. In February 2026, ElevenLabs published Betsy’s 2025 results, which HousingWire reported included a 41 percent lower cost to originate.
Our Take on Betsy for Lenders
Betsy earns 7.7/10 on our scale. Autonomy is high: it prices, locks and answers status questions with consent built in, and it handled over a third of inquiries end to end at Better. Setup and pricing value sit lower because it requires the Tinman platform and pricing is by agreement.
Its gaps are about access more than ability. A published partner price range, security certifications and a version that works with other origination systems would open Betsy to many more lenders and lift its setup and pricing scores on our scale.
For a lender already weighing a new origination platform, Betsy is a good reason to look at Tinman. Ask Better for partner references beyond its own results, and model the switch from your LOS before committing.
Lender Questions About Betsy and Tinman
Can Other Lenders Use Betsy?
Yes, through Better’s Tinman platform. Lenders, banks, credit unions and fintechs can launch branded voice agents built on Betsy without building their own orchestration.
How Much of the Work Does Betsy Automate?
At Better, Betsy automated 35.5 percent of mortgage inquiries end to end in 2025 and saved loan officers more than 1,666 hours a month. The other inquiries reached a person, and Betsy’s memory of earlier conversations went with each handoff, so loan officers did not start from zero on those calls either.
Can Betsy Lock a Rate?
Yes. Tinman computes pricing and eligibility, and Betsy can run a rate lock over the phone after the borrower gives consent. Credit pulls and identity checks follow the same consent rule, and every step follows state licensing requirements.
Does Betsy Work With Encompass?
Betsy runs on Tinman, Better’s own platform. NEO Home Loans moved from Encompass to Tinman to use it, so lenders on Encompass should plan for a platform change or consider a voice vendor that connects to Encompass directly.
How Much Does Tinman Cost?
Better does not publish Tinman or Betsy pricing. Terms are set in each partner agreement, and the scope can include home equity and reverse mortgage products, as in the Finance of America deal.
