Instacrops says its irrigation agent cuts water and energy use by 15%, and that its harvest estimates miss by about 3%, against an industry norm of 15% to 20%. The Chilean startup, a Y Combinator alumnus founded by Mario Bustamante, started out selling frost-warning sensors and now sells AI agents that tell growers what to do and when, mostly through WhatsApp.

About 3,000 users across Chile, Peru, Mexico, Colombia, Uruguay and Guatemala use it, according to Chilean business daily Diario Financiero, with clients including Westfalia, Copefrut, Dole, Greenland and Nestle.

How It Works

The system pulls in more than 80 parameters, including soil moisture, humidity, temperature, pressure, past yields and NDVI satellite readings, processing about 15 million data points an hour. Separate agents handle separate jobs. InstaYield estimates harvests, FruitTracker counts fruit in the field with computer vision, and InstaDrop decides when and how much to irrigate. On farms with modern equipment, Instacrops can control irrigation systems directly rather than only sending advice.

Farmers mostly interact through WhatsApp, which the company says about 80% of regional producers already use to run their business. A free agent covering general advice such as pruning, frost alerts and nutrient timing was announced for May 2026, and a builder that lets farmers create their own agents, for tasks like cash flow or harvest analysis, was planned for mid-2026 on AWS. Instacrops focuses on high-value crops such as apples, avocados, blueberries, almonds and cherries.

Pricing

Instacrops does not publish prices. The core agents are sold as a subscription, reported as an annual fee per hectare of farmland. The free agent needs no subscription, which gives smaller growers a way to try the service before paying.

What to Watch Out For

The headline numbers on water savings and yield gains come from the company, not independent trials, so ask for results from farms with similar crops and climate. Its footprint is Latin America and fruit, so growers elsewhere or of row crops should check whether its models fit their conditions. Automatic irrigation control depends on compatible hardware, and recommendations sent by chat still need someone on the farm to act on them.
