TaxDome Atlas is the AI agent built into TaxDome, a practice management platform that TaxDome says more than 10,000 firms in over 25 countries use. It suits small and mid-size tax and accounting firms that already run clients, jobs, billing and the client portal in TaxDome. Atlas reads that data and acts on it: drafting client debriefs, invoicing unbilled time and flagging unanswered client threads, then repeating the job on a schedule. It manages the practice rather than preparing returns, and it began as a beta in summer 2026.
The platform costs from $800 per seat a year on Essentials, and TaxDome has not published a separate price for Atlas. Its document AI already has scale behind it: more than 2 million documents renamed and tagged in the 2025 tax season, by TaxDome’s count. This review is based on TaxDome’s published pricing, help pages and product updates; we have not tested it hands-on.
TaxDome Seats From $800 a Year With Atlas Built In
- Starting price: $800 per seat a year on Essentials (1-year term); Pro from $1,000 a year or $100 a month; Business from $1,200 a year.
- What Atlas does: Acts across clients, notes, jobs, invoices and the work forecast, and turns any one-off task into a recurring background agent.
- Proof of scale: TaxDome AI organized more than 2 million documents in the 2025 tax season, saving an estimated 16,000-plus hours, TaxDome reported.
- Security: SOC 2 Type II, zero retention for document AI, no training on scanned data and opt-in AI access tied to user permissions.
- Our score: 8.4/10, strong on security and published pricing, with its beta start and practice-admin scope as the factors behind the rest.
TaxDome’s Usage Figures From Its Own Blog

The document numbers matter because they show TaxDome’s AI already runs inside real tax-season workflows at volume. Peak days reached 500 to 700 uploads at a single firm, according to the same post, which is the kind of load where small gains per document add up. Atlas inherits that context: it works on the same client records, jobs and invoices.
The figures are TaxDome’s own, and the two firm counts differ, so the larger number is best read as a marketing figure. The Atlas rollout dates are plans the company stated during its summer update rather than a confirmed general availability notice.
An Agent That Sees Clients, Jobs and Invoices
Atlas is part of TaxDome rather than a separate product. That means it can see the firm’s client list, notes, jobs, invoices and the work forecast, and act inside the same system staff already use.
The Atlas Agent
- Ask or schedule. A staff member asks Atlas for a task, or picks one of TaxDome’s recommended starter agents.
- Atlas gathers context. It looks across clients, notes, jobs, invoices and the work forecast that the user is allowed to see.
- It acts. Examples TaxDome gives include drafting a client debrief, creating an invoice for unbilled time and surfacing client threads the team has not answered.
- Save it as an agent. Any task done once can be saved as a recurring agent that runs in the background or on a schedule, so a weekly unbilled time sweep or a Monday list of stale client threads happens without anyone asking.
TaxDome AI for Documents
TaxDome AI handles the intake side. When clients upload files, it analyzes, renames and tags them by type, such as W-2 or 1099-C. Firms turn it on under firm settings by enabling document renaming and tag assignment. AI-generated checklists match uploads to the right items and check them off as documents arrive, and an assistant can build a checklist from the client’s prior-year return. TaxDome said the next season would add checklist reuse, multiple checklists per client and bulk creation.
Connectors and API
Two beta features open TaxDome to outside AI and software. The MCP connector lets Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot work with TaxDome data; TaxDome’s example compares Calendly meetings with job due dates and updates the dates in one step. The API lets other tools trigger TaxDome work: when a HubSpot deal closes, TaxDome can create the client, the job and the engagement letter, and a notetaker can add call notes and move the job forward.
Features on the Way
TaxDome also described features that were not yet generally available at its summer update. Tax Return Delivery will get an AI setup that fills in payment details automatically and places signature fields, cutting a step from sending finished returns to clients. A Work Forecaster, with a waitlist for its beta, will flag jobs trending toward trouble before deadlines are at risk. Atlas already reads the work forecast, so the two are designed to work together: the forecaster spots the risk and an agent can chase the missing pieces.
Permission-Limited Access and Staff Review of Invoices
AI access in TaxDome is opt-in and limited to each user’s existing permissions, so Atlas cannot see more than the person using it. Staff still review invoices and client messages before they go out, decide engagement terms and do the technical tax and accounting work. Atlas is a practice assistant, not a preparer.
Per-Seat US Prices for Every Team Member
TaxDome publishes per-seat prices, and every team member needs a seat. The figures below are TaxDome’s US prices; Canadian prices are higher in Canadian dollars.
| Plan | Price | Billing | What’s Included | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Essentials | $800 per seat a year (1 year); $750 (2 years); $700 (3 years) | Annual or multi-year | CRM, client portal and mobile app, secure messaging, proposals and payments, intake forms, documents and e-signatures, automations, TaxDome AI document organization | Up to 10 client general ledgers; no monthly option |
| Pro | $1,000 per seat a year (1 year); $950 (2 years); $900 (3 years); or $100 per seat a month | Annual, multi-year or monthly | Everything in Essentials plus AI-driven analytics, custom domain and website, workload management, roles and permissions, activity feed | Up to 120 client general ledgers |
| Business | $1,200 per seat a year (1 year); $1,150 (2 years); $1,100 (3 years); seasonal seat $500 for 4 months | Annual, multi-year or seasonal | Everything in Pro plus premium support, Client Care, business reviews, a customer success manager, unlimited chat history | No monthly seat |
A Solo Practitioner and a Five-Person Pro Firm
Solo practitioner. Essentials is the only plan that allows a single team member, at $800 a year on a 1-year term.
Five-person firm on Pro. Five seats at $1,000 come to $5,000 a year on a 1-year term, or $4,500 a year on a 3-year term at $900 a seat. Paying monthly at $100 a seat costs $1,200 per seat over 12 months, so annual billing saves $200 per seat.
Ten-person firm on Business with seasonal help. Ten seats on a 3-year term at $1,100 plus three 4-month seasonal seats at $500 come to $12,500 a year.
Hidden and variable costs. TaxDome has not said whether Atlas will carry its own fee or usage limits once it leaves beta. Payment processing and migration effort are separate considerations, and multi-year terms lock in seat counts at the agreed price.
TaxDome Atlas Compared With Karbon AI, Intuit Accountant Suite and Basis
Atlas competes with agents built into other practice platforms and with standalone firm automation. Karbon is the closest like-for-like practice management rival.
| Tool | Starting Price | Free Plan | Main Strength | Main Trade-Off | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| TaxDome Atlas | $800 per seat a year (Essentials) | No | Agent runs scheduled tasks on clients, jobs and invoices inside an all-in-one portal and billing platform | Began as a beta; practice admin only | Small and mid-size tax firms that live in TaxDome |
| Karbon AI | $59 per user a month (Team, billed annually) | No | Email triage, client summaries and close issue flags inside Karbon, included for paid customers | Agentic workflows still in early access | Firms built around shared email and workflow |
| Intuit Accountant Suite | Free (Core); Accelerate $149 a month | Yes | Free practice platform with QuickBooks agents for receipts, reconciliation and close | Only useful for QuickBooks Online clients | Bookkeeping firms serving QuickBooks clients |
| Basis | Custom quote | No | Long multi-step tax, audit and accounting work for whole practice areas | No public pricing; enterprise rollouts | Larger firms automating professional work |
Karbon and TaxDome are the most direct comparison: both sell practice management with an agent layer, and Karbon is cheaper per month for small teams on annual billing while TaxDome bundles the client portal, payments and e-signatures. Intuit’s suite wins on price for QuickBooks-centric firms. Basis does a different job, completing professional work rather than running the practice. Existing TaxDome Firms Leaking Unbilled Time
- Existing TaxDome firms: Atlas works on data you already have, so the setup cost is close to zero.
- Firms leaking unbilled time: an agent that finds unbilled work and drafts invoices on a schedule pays for itself quickly if billing lags.
- Small teams without an operations manager: recurring agents can handle the follow-ups and status checks that fall through the cracks.
- Security-conscious firms: SOC 2 Type II and no training on client documents meet common requirements. See also our accounting agents list.
Firms Wanting AI Tax Prep or Happy Elsewhere
- Firms that want AI tax preparation: Atlas does not prepare returns; look at Black Ore or Filed.
- Firms happy on another practice platform: switching to TaxDome just for Atlas means moving clients, portal and billing.
- Firms that need monthly flexibility on every plan: only Pro has a monthly seat.
- Buyers who need a long-established agent today: Atlas started as a waitlisted beta in 2026.
Beta Timing and Atlas Pricing Questions
- Beta status: TaxDome said Atlas would reach all firms at the end of the third quarter of 2026; confirm it is live on your account.
- Unpublished Atlas pricing: ask whether Atlas will stay included in seat prices or carry a fee or usage cap.
- Scope: Atlas handles practice tasks such as billing, debriefs and follow-ups, not tax or accounting judgment.
- Commitments: most plans bill annually or for multiple years, which saves money but locks in seats.
- Outside AI access: the MCP connector sends TaxDome data to tools such as ChatGPT or Claude; set firm policy on which accounts may use it.
- Vendor figures: the hours saved and approval rating come from TaxDome.
Summer 2026 Update With an MCP Connector
In its summer 2026 product update, TaxDome introduced Atlas in beta, along with an MCP connector for Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot, a public API in beta and AI document checklists, which had passed 280,000 completed checklists during the beta season.
On October 31, 2025, TaxDome reported that TaxDome AI had renamed and tagged more than 2 million documents in the 2025 tax season, saving an estimated 16,000-plus hours.
Easy Yes for TaxDome Firms Once It Is Switched On
For firms already on TaxDome, yes, once it is enabled on your account. TaxDome Atlas scores 8.4/10 on our scale. It runs on data you already maintain, can turn routine admin into scheduled background agents and comes from a vendor with published prices and SOC 2 Type II certification. The document AI that preceded it shows TaxDome can ship AI that firms use at scale.
On its own, Atlas is not the main reason to switch platforms. The agent is new, it handles practice work rather than tax preparation, and its long-term pricing has not yet been announced. Firms on Karbon or Intuit’s suite should compare the agents they already have before moving. New buyers should weigh TaxDome as a full practice platform first and treat Atlas as a bonus.
A sensible rollout is to start with two or three narrow agents, such as a weekly unbilled time sweep and a list of client threads waiting more than two business days, and have a partner review their output for a month before adding more. That keeps billing and client communication under human control while the firm learns what Atlas gets right.
When Firms Get Atlas and What It Can See
Is TaxDome Atlas Included in TaxDome Plans?
TaxDome has not published a separate Atlas price. Seats start at $800 a year on Essentials, and TaxDome AI document organization is listed from that plan. Ask sales which plans include Atlas.
What Can TaxDome Atlas Do on Its Own?
It can draft client debriefs, create invoices for unbilled time and surface client threads no one has answered. Any of those tasks can be saved as a recurring agent that runs in the background or on a schedule.
Does TaxDome Train AI on Client Documents?
TaxDome says data scanned with TaxDome AI is not used to train AI models and is not stored. The company states SOC 2 Type II certification and a zero-retention policy.
Can TaxDome Connect to ChatGPT or Claude?
Yes, through a beta MCP connector that lets Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot work with TaxDome data, such as updating job due dates from Calendly meetings.
Is TaxDome Atlas Better Than Karbon AI?
They target the same job inside different platforms. Karbon starts at $59 per user a month on annual billing, while TaxDome starts at $800 per seat a year and bundles a client portal, payments and e-signatures.
