Every Shopify merchant already has Sidekick, at no extra charge. The assistant inside the Shopify admin can edit orders, set up discounts, write product copy, build automations and, since December 2025, generate custom admin apps from a prompt.
It is a tool for the people running a store, not for shoppers: Shopify says it cannot talk to customers or handle support chats. This review is based on Shopify’s announcements and third-party coverage; we did not test it hands-on.
How It Works
Merchants type or speak a request in the admin, the Shopify mobile app or on Apple Watch. Sidekick can create customers and draft orders, edit orders, configure discounts, write product descriptions, generate images, edit themes and emails, and answer questions about sales or customers by writing reports on store data. For bigger jobs it breaks the work into a to-do list and walks through it. It does not change the store without the merchant’s approval.
Since the Winter ’26 Edition, Sidekick Pulse works in the background and flags growth ideas on the Home screen, such as the likely effect of a price change. Sidekick can also build Shopify Flow automations and write custom admin apps using Shopify’s own interface components and API, which the merchant can test before installing. App extensions let partners such as Klaviyo, Judge.me and Yotpo share their data with Sidekick, so it can answer questions across those apps too.
Pricing
Sidekick has no separate price. It comes with a Shopify subscription, though some features and usage caps depend on the plan. Reported plan prices are $39 a month for Basic ($29 billed annually), $105 for Grow ($79 annually) and $399 for Advanced ($299 annually), with custom pricing for Plus. New stores get a short free trial, then a reduced rate for the first months.
What to Watch Out For
Pulse rolled out gradually and was not on every plan at first, so check what your plan includes. Generated apps suit simple internal tools; anything complex still needs a developer. Review generated product copy and images before publishing, and look for a separate tool if you need an AI agent that answers customers.
