Shortwave raised prices on June 30, 2026, and dropped annual billing. Its Business plan, the lowest tier that lets the AI assistant work inside other apps, now costs $30 a seat a month.
Shortwave is an email client built by former Firebase and Google engineers and backed by Union Square Ventures and Lightspeed Venture Partners. Its assistant does the usual inbox jobs, such as summarizing threads and drafting replies, but it can also take requests that span several apps and carry them out.
How It Works
The assistant searches a user’s email history in plain language, summarizes threads, analyzes attachments and writes drafts that copy the user’s style. AI filters sort incoming mail automatically, and autocomplete speeds up typing.
In May 2025 Shortwave added AI Integrations, built on the Model Context Protocol. One-click connections cover HubSpot, Notion, GitHub, Asana, Linear, Zapier and a web browser, and users can point the assistant at any other MCP server. That lets it handle requests such as creating an Asana task for every bug report in the inbox, turning a project’s emails into a Notion status page, or looking up a contact in HubSpot. Remote servers work on the web and Android apps, and local servers on desktop.
Pricing
The free plan keeps 90 days of AI search history for one email account. Pro costs $18 a seat a month. Business, at $30, adds AI integrations and five years of search history. Premier, at $45, doubles AI usage and removes the history limit. Max, at $120, gives six times the base AI usage. Enterprise is custom and aimed at 50 or more seats. All new subscriptions are billed monthly.
What to Watch Out For
Shortwave is built around Gmail and Google Workspace, and support for Outlook is unclear, so check before moving a team. The June 2026 increase raised paid tiers by roughly 20 to 29% compared with the old annual rates. Connecting the assistant to CRM, project and code tools gives it write access to those systems, so admins should decide which integrations to allow and which MCP servers people may add on their own. Heavy users should also watch the AI usage limits, which rise only on the more expensive tiers.
