Our editorial score across six weighted criteria, based on Klaviyo Composer’s published documentation, pricing and public user ratings. How we score

Assembles audience, copy, channels and timing from one request and accepts follow-up edits, with approval required and flow branching not documented.

Already inside every Klaviyo account with nothing to install, and Klaviyo says a campaign can go live in under 30 minutes.

Ten thousand free credits for 90 days and published paid credits from $14 a month, on top of a Klaviyo plan that starts free.

  • Trust and Security8.3

Marketer approval gates every campaign, and drafts come from the brand's own account data.

  • User Sentiment9.4

Klaviyo's Shopify app is rated 4.7 out of 5 from 3,427 reviews, with some complaints about profile-based billing.

Klaviyo Composer Puts a Campaign Together in Under 30 Minutes

Klaviyo says a campaign built with Composer can go live in under 30 minutes. The marketer types what the campaign should do, and Composer assembles the audience segment, the copy, the channels and the send timing from the brand’s own Klaviyo data. The marketer edits through follow-up requests and approves before anything sends. Composer reached every Klaviyo account on June 30, 2026.

It suits online brands that already send email and SMS through Klaviyo, which counts more than 193,000 paying customers. Each account gets 10,000 free credits for 90 days, and paid credits start at $14 a month. Brands on other email platforms cannot use it. We score Composer 8.9/10 on our scale.

Composer Facts for Shopify and DTC Marketers

  • Private beta opened March 25, 2026; Composer became available to every Klaviyo customer on June 30, 2026.
  • One request produces the audience, copy, channels and send timing, and a marketer approves before launch.
  • 10,000 complimentary credits for 90 days, then credit plans from $14 a month for 2,000 credits.
  • It reads Klaviyo segments, the product catalog and performance history, so drafts match what the brand sells.
  • Klaviyo’s Shopify app is rated 4.7 out of 5 from 3,427 reviews.

How Composer Builds a Campaign

Composer lives inside the Klaviyo account. There is nothing to install or switch on.

The Request

The marketer describes the campaign in plain language. A request might name the goal, the products, the offer and the people to reach, such as “invite customers who bought running shoes in the last year but not this spring to try the new trail range, 15% off for three days.”

The Draft

Composer picks a segment from the account’s existing data, writes the copy, chooses channels and sets send timing. Because it reads the catalog and past campaign performance, product details and timing reflect what has worked for that brand. Klaviyo said at the March preview that Composer draws on profiles, behavioral signals and performance data.

The Edits and Approval

The marketer reviews the draft and asks for changes in follow-up turns, such as a shorter subject line or an SMS reminder on day two. Nothing goes out until the marketer approves it.

Two Extra Tools in the Same Product

Flow Audit analyzes automated flows and finds where they lose customers. A welcome series that drops off after the second email, for example, would show up there. Composer can also build a campaign from an uploaded product image, which helps when the photography is ready before any copy.

Teams planning complex branching automations should test them during the free credit period before building a quarter’s calendar around Composer.

Composer’s main advantage over a general writing tool is that last-mile data. Klaviyo already knows who bought what, who opened what and when each customer tends to buy. A brief that would take a marketer an hour of segment building becomes one sentence.

The 3,427 Shopify reviews also say something about who will use it. These are mostly store owners and small teams, which is the group that gains most from cutting campaign build time.

Credits, Plans and What a Store Pays Each Month

Composer is priced in credits on top of a standard Klaviyo plan.

Three Store Budgets Worked Out

A new store on the entry Email plan that adds the first Composer credit tier pays $20 plus $14, or $34 a month, once the 90-day free credits end.

A store that sends email and text messages at entry levels pays $20 for Email, $15 for SMS and $14 for Composer credits, or $49 a month. Over a year, the Composer part alone comes to $168.

A store that also turns on Klaviyo’s Customer Agent for service questions adds $0.70 per conversation after 50 free ones. At 300 conversations a month that is $175, which brings the example store to $224 a month.

The 90-day free allowance is the time to measure credit use per campaign: count campaigns built and credits spent, then pick the paid tier from real usage.

Composer Against Lifecycle Studio, Breeze and Jasper

We compared Composer with other agents that build campaigns, using published pricing from our own listings.

AgentStarting PriceFree OptionMain StrengthMain GapFits
Klaviyo Composer10,000 free credits, then $14 a monthYes, 90-day creditsCampaign from one request using store dataKlaviyo accounts onlyShopify and DTC brands

Jasper$59 per seat a month billed yearly7-day Pro trialBrand-governed copy across channelsDoes not send campaignsContent-heavy teams

For a Klaviyo store, Composer is the cheapest way to try agent-built campaigns, since the first 10,000 credits are free. Hightouch fits brands large enough to run a warehouse and keep their current sending platform. HubSpot Breeze suits companies that run sales and service in HubSpot too. Jasper writes the words and leaves launch to the email tool. Our ecommerce agents page and email agents page list more choices.

A Spring Launch Built With Composer, Step by Step

This walk-through uses only the features Klaviyo documents. The store and products are an example.

An outdoor apparel store is launching a trail running range. The marketer uploads the hero product photo and asks Composer for a launch campaign: email to past running-shoe buyers, an SMS reminder two days later for people who opened but did not click, and early access for VIP customers.

Composer drafts the segments from purchase history, writes the email and SMS copy using the new products in the catalog and proposes send times based on past performance. The marketer asks for a shorter subject line and a different header image, then approves. Klaviyo’s estimate for this whole loop is under 30 minutes.

A week later the marketer runs Flow Audit on the welcome series, which new subscribers from the launch will enter. It flags the step where most people stop opening, and she rewrites that email before the next wave of sign-ups.

Getting Better Drafts From Composer

Put the goal, the audience and the offer in the first request. “Sell more” gives Composer little to work with; “clear last season’s rain jackets to customers who bought outerwear before, 25% off, three days” gives it a segment, products and a deadline.

Keep the catalog clean. Composer writes from product data, so missing descriptions or wrong categories show up in the copy. Fix product titles, sizes and category tags first, then build the first few campaigns.

Save a few approved campaigns as reference points. Composer reads past campaign templates and performance, so strong past work raises the quality of new drafts.

Where Composer Sits in Klaviyo’s Agent Lineup

Composer is one of several agents Klaviyo shipped in 2026. Customer Agent answers shopper questions such as order tracking, returns, exchanges, subscription edits and loyalty lookups, and hands off to Helpdesk with context. Klaviyo reports it resolves 65% of questions on its own, and Naked Wardrobe reached 86% autonomous resolution within 90 days.

Agent Guidance lets brands set tone of voice and rules for when a conversation passes to a person. Klaviyo Social Marketing, released to all customers in June, ties Instagram DMs, comments and mentions to customer profiles, so social activity can feed segments that Composer later targets.

All of these share the same customer profile. For a store, that means the person who asked Customer Agent about a late order can be excluded from a promotional send that week.

Stores That Should Turn Composer On This Week

Klaviyo customers who send fewer campaigns than they plan should start now. The free credits cost nothing, and the bottleneck for most small teams is build time, which is exactly what Composer cuts.

Brands with a deep catalog benefit too. When a store sells hundreds of products, choosing which ones to feature for which segment takes real effort, and Composer reads the catalog and past results to make that call. Seasonal businesses with short selling windows, such as holiday gifts or back-to-school, also gain, because a campaign that takes half an hour can react to stock levels and weather in the same week.

Teams that already use Klaviyo’s Customer Agent can run both on the same customer profiles. Service conversations and marketing campaigns then draw on one record.

Brands Better Off Waiting on Composer

Brands sending through another email platform cannot use Composer at all, and switching platforms for one feature is a big step. Brands with complex branching journeys may want to confirm how far Composer goes with flows before relying on it.

Teams with strict legal review may also go slowly. Composer drafts quickly, but a regulated product still needs every claim reviewed, and approval time will set the real launch speed. Supplement, skincare and financial products are typical cases, where a single wrong health or return claim can cause more trouble than a slow campaign.

Measuring Whether Composer Pays Off

Pick two numbers before the free credits run out. The first is build time per campaign, measured between first request and approval. The second is revenue per recipient on Composer-built campaigns compared with the store’s recent hand-built ones.

If build time falls and revenue per recipient holds steady, the paid credit tier at $14 a month is a modest cost to keep. If revenue per recipient drops, look at the requests before blaming the tool; vague briefs tend to produce generic campaigns.

Approval, Data Use and Billing Notes

Every Composer campaign waits for a marketer’s approval. Teams should decide who can approve, since a fast tool makes it tempting to send more than planned.

Composer uses data already in the account: segments, catalog and performance history. Brands with incomplete product data or messy segments will see that in the drafts, so a quick catalog and segment cleanup pays off.

On billing, merchants in Shopify reviews say Klaviyo charges by active profiles and that moving to a lower plan is harder than moving up. Brands should prune inactive profiles before a billing cycle, separate from Composer’s own credits.

Composer’s Path Through Klaviyo’s 2026 Releases

Why Composer Scores 8.9 With Us

Composer earns 8.9/10 on our scale. It scores high on setup, since it is already inside every account, and on pricing, with free credits and published paid tiers. User sentiment is strong, based on 3,427 Shopify reviews of Klaviyo with a 4.7 average.

Autonomy is good: one request becomes a full campaign, though a marketer must approve and flow branching is not documented. Integrations are tied to the Klaviyo ecosystem, which is broad for ecommerce but closed to other sending platforms. For a Klaviyo customer, spending the free credits is low-risk and quick to judge.
