BuzzStream Score

Our editorial score across six weighted criteria, based on BuzzStream’s published documentation, pricing and public user ratings. How we score

  • Autonomy7.9

ListIQ researches and vets journalists and finds contact data on its own, and sequences send follow-ups, but replies and negotiation stay with people.

  • Ease of Setup8.8

BuzzStream is self-serve with a free trial and a Chrome extension, though Capterra reviewers mention an early learning curve.

  • Pricing Value9.1

Outreach plans from $49 a month and ListIQ credit tiers are published, with no contract and a free ListIQ tier.

  • Integrations7.8

BuzzStream lists an Ahrefs integration from Growth, a web services API on Professional and a Chrome extension.

  • Trust and Security8.1

BuzzStream documents daily backups in multiple locations, guarded data centers and deletion 14 days after cancellation.

  • User Sentiment9.2

Capterra shows 4.5 out of 5 from 22 reviews, with praise for contact management and some notes on interface age and data accuracy.

BuzzStream is an outreach CRM for digital PR and link building that has run since 2008, and its AI piece, ListIQ, builds media lists by researching journalists live on the web. It suits PR teams and link builders who want flexible monthly plans and better contact research, and who are happy to handle replies themselves.

Outreach plans start at $49 a month with no minimum term, and ListIQ has a free tier of 750 credits. The main gap is reply handling: BuzzStream does not yet offer an agent that answers site owners or negotiates fees. Capterra reviewers rate it 4.5 out of 5 from 22 reviews, and we score it 8.5/10 on our scale.

BuzzStream and ListIQ for PR and Link Teams

  • ListIQ turns a News Search or a list of URLs into a researched media list, checking that each journalist is still active.
  • It gathers emails, social profiles, bios, recent articles and location, and can re-research old spreadsheets.
  • Outreach plans run $49, $174 and $424 a month, with Custom from $999, all monthly with no contract.
  • ListIQ is billed separately: free for 750 credits, then $49 to $199 a month.
  • Replies and fee talks stay with your team, since there is no reply agent yet.

The ListIQ tiers imply about 15 credits per researched contact. At the $49 tier that is about 24.5 cents a contact, falling to about 10 cents at the $199 tier. For a PR team that rebuilds lists for every campaign, that per-contact figure is the number to compare against a media database subscription.

Plan limits scale steeply. Contacts jump from 500 on Starter to 25,000 on Growth, a 50-fold increase for about 3.5 times the price, so Starter works best as a trial seat or for a single small campaign.

The lack of a contract is the other figure that matters. A team can run a single campaign for a month, cancel, and keep its data for 14 days before deletion.

How BuzzStream Builds Lists and Runs Outreach

BuzzStream splits the job into research, email, management and reporting, and ListIQ now handles most of the research.

Researching Journalists With ListIQ

ListIQ is a Chrome extension for desktop Chrome that runs under your BuzzStream account. You can start from BuzzStream’s News Search, which finds recent articles on a topic, or from URLs you supply. BuzzStream says ListIQ uses a proprietary AI research model to find and vet publicly available information and builds results in real time from the web instead of a fixed database.

For each writer it checks whether they are still active and still at their publication, then collects email addresses, social profiles, job titles, bios, recent articles and geographic data. Three other jobs come built in: enriching a spreadsheet you already have, re-researching lists from past campaigns, and extracting article and author details from third-party URLs, such as coverage a competitor earned.

Sending and Following Up

The list then feeds the outreach CRM. Every plan includes contact info discovery, open, click and reply tracking, email templates and publisher and influencer metrics. From Growth upward you get bulk sending, scheduling, reminders and automated follow-ups, plus shared templates and customizable permissions for a team.

Tracking Placements

Link monitoring is included from Starter, which covers 1,000 links, up to 100,000 on Professional. Reports cover email performance, projects, links and, on Professional, team performance with unlimited customization. Professional also adds backup recipients and a web services API.

A Data Story Campaign, Step by Step

Take a digital PR team with a survey on remote work costs. Someone runs a News Search for recent articles on remote work and office costs, and ListIQ turns the results into a list of writers who covered the topic, dropping anyone who has left the outlet or stopped writing. The team adds a few competitor coverage URLs, and ListIQ pulls those authors in too, with their recent articles attached for context.

The list moves into a Growth project. A template with merge fields goes out in bulk on a schedule, and automated follow-ups go to anyone who does not reply. Opens, clicks and replies show against each contact, so the team can see which journalists engaged. When an article runs with a link, link monitoring tracks it, and the project report shows links won per campaign.

Each of those steps is something BuzzStream documents on its plan and ListIQ pages. The research and the follow-ups run without anyone clicking through contact pages, while the pitch angle, the replies and any exclusives stay with the team.

Other Outreach Jobs in the Same Account

BuzzStream also positions the CRM for content promotion and partner recruitment. The same research, templates and tracking apply when you are asking bloggers to share a guide or recruiting affiliates. For agencies this means one tool can serve a PR client, an SEO client and a partnerships client, each in a separate project with its own reports.

What Your Team Still Does

BuzzStream does not answer replies, negotiate fees or decide when to stop chasing a contact. People read responses in the CRM and act on them. Teams that want that step automated should compare tools with reply agents, covered below.

BuzzStream Plan Prices and ListIQ Credits

BuzzStream publishes four outreach plans and five ListIQ tiers.

What BuzzStream Costs for Three Kinds of Teams

  • A freelancer pitching for one site: Starter at $49 plus ListIQ’s free tier is $588 a year. Paying upfront for 12 months with one month free brings the outreach plan to $539.
  • A three-person PR team: Growth at $174 plus ListIQ at $99 for about 500 contacts a month is $273 a month, or $3,276 a year.
  • A five-person link building team: Growth with two extra users is $174 plus $116, or $290 a month. Professional covers six users for $424 and adds API access, so the jump is worth weighing if you need integrations.

Placement fees, content writing and any paid media database sit outside these figures.

The per-seat math changes the picture for larger teams. Growth with six users would cost $174 plus three extra seats at $58, or $348 a month, which is $76 less than Professional at $424. Professional still makes sense when the team needs the API, backup recipients, team performance reports or a dedicated account manager. Above 12 users, BuzzStream moves buyers to Custom from $999 a month with an implementation plan.

BuzzStream Compared With Pitchbox, Muck Rack and MentionAgent

These rivals differ in contract terms and in how much of the work their AI does.

ToolStarting priceFree planMain strengthMain limitationBest for
BuzzStream$49/monthListIQ free tierAI journalist research with monthly plansNo reply agentPR and link teams that want flexibility
Pitchbox$210/month billed annuallyNoReply agent that negotiates and closes dealsOne-year commitmentHigh-volume SEO teams and agencies
Muck RackQuote-basedNoVerified media database with a Media List AgentPricing by quoteIn-house PR and comms teams
MentionAgent$99/monthFree credits to startAgent that prospects, pitches and follows upYoung company, one site on StarterFounders who want hands-off blogger outreach

BuzzStream and Muck Rack both serve PR teams, but they work differently. Muck Rack sells access to an editorially verified media database and adds an agent on top. BuzzStream researches contacts live from the web each time. Pitchbox and MentionAgent take on more of the conversation itself. More options sit on our link building agents and SEO agents pages.

Digital PR Teams and Link Builders Who Want Monthly Terms

BuzzStream suits teams that run campaigns in bursts. A digital PR team launching a data story can build a fresh list with ListIQ, pitch it through Growth’s bulk send and follow-ups, then scale back. The no-contract model and the free ListIQ tier make that pattern cheap to test.

Teams that already use Ahrefs get extra value from Growth upward, because the integration brings domain metrics into prospect records. Freelancers can start on Starter with ListIQ’s free tier and move to Growth only when they need bulk send and follow-ups.

It also fits mixed teams, since the same CRM handles journalist pitching, SEO link building, content promotion and partner recruitment. Agencies running several client projects can keep each in its own project and report on links and team performance from Professional.

Teams Wanting Replies and Negotiation Automated

Solo site owners who mostly want links for one site, and who would rather not write pitches at all, may prefer an agent that writes and sends each first email for them. BuzzStream gives you templates and merge fields, but the pitch itself is yours.

Teams that receive more replies than they can answer will find BuzzStream asks more of them than reply-agent tools. Pitchbox answers and negotiates on its own, and MentionAgent drafts replies and follows up.

Buyers who need deep integrations, such as CRM sync or Slack alerts, may also find the list short: Ahrefs, the Chrome extension and an API on Professional.

Interface, Data Quality and Separate Billing

  • Two bills: ListIQ is a separate product with its own credits, so budget for both it and the outreach plan.
  • Starter limits: Starter leaves out bulk send, scheduling and automated follow-ups, which arrive with Growth at $174.
  • Contact accuracy: some Capterra reviewers found email finding and Chrome extension data incomplete or inaccurate; ListIQ’s activity checks are aimed at that problem.
  • Interface: a few reviewers describe the design as functional but dated, and new users mention a learning curve.
  • Seat costs: extra users cost $58 each on Growth and $70 each on Professional, so a growing team should compare the per-seat total with the next plan up.
  • Search caps: prospecting searches are capped at 30, 250 and 1,000 a month by plan, separate from ListIQ credits.
  • Data after cancelling: account data is kept for 14 days, then deleted, so export lists and history first.

BuzzStream Fits Teams That Handle Their Own Replies

We rate BuzzStream 8.5/10 on our scale. Its prices are published and flexible, ListIQ gives PR teams a fresh, researched list for each campaign, and a free tier makes it cheap to try. The CRM covers PR and SEO outreach in one place, and Capterra users rate it 4.5 out of 5.

ListIQ is the part that has moved BuzzStream forward. Checking that each journalist is still active before a pitch goes out addresses one of the most common complaints about media lists, which is bounced or irrelevant pitches to people who changed jobs. The per-contact cost is clear from the credit tiers, so a team can price a campaign before running it.

The clearest area to improve is reply handling: an agent that drafts or sends replies and tracks deals would bring it closer to newer tools. Broader integrations would also help larger teams. For PR teams and link builders who want AI research and keep conversations in human hands, BuzzStream is a well-priced option.
