Descript’s Creator plan, at $24 a month on annual billing, includes full access to Underlord, an AI co-editor that takes plain-language requests, such as cutting bad takes and adding captions, and carries them out across a whole project. Descript says that in triggered workflows the agent handles roughly 90% of the editing, leaving the creator to do a final review.

Underlord sits inside Descript’s text-based editor, which lets people edit audio and video by editing a transcript. That makes it a natural fit for podcasts, webinars, interviews and explainer videos rather than cinematic work.

How It Works

Users type what they want and Underlord performs the steps: removing filler words and silences, flagging retakes, suggesting B-roll, writing show notes and chapter markers, and cutting short clips for social media. It can draft a script from a prompt or critique an existing one, and turn documents, slides, blog posts and screen recordings into video. Batch jobs such as centering speakers, censoring language or adding lower thirds run in one pass and can be redone on request.

Descript has added what it calls media understanding, which lets Underlord read what appears on screen and not just what is said. That supports tasks like placing B-roll to match a script or finding similar visual moments across files. Since August 2026 an API, MCP connection and Zapier triggers let an event such as a new recording start an edit automatically.

Pricing

The free plan includes one media hour a month, 100 AI credits at signup, watermarked 720p export and limited Underlord use. Hobbyist costs $16 a month on annual billing or $24 monthly, with 10 media hours and 400 credits. Creator costs $24 annually or $35 monthly, with 30 hours, 800 credits and 4K export. Business is $50 annually or $65 monthly, and Enterprise is quoted. Underlord actions consume AI credits, and extra hours and credits can be bought on Creator.

What to Watch Out For

Heavy Underlord use can burn through credits, so check allowances against your output. Lower tiers limit what the agent can do, and automated edits still need a human pass before publishing. Descript did not disclose pricing for automated API workflows when it announced them. This entry is based on published information, not hands-on testing.
