Docusign Iris Agents for Contract Review and Tracking
Docusign’s Iris agents reached general availability in August 2026 inside Docusign IAM, for English-language customers hosted in North American data centers. Review agents compare an agreement with company standards, suggest edits and request approvals. Monitoring agents watch signed contracts, flag risks, track obligations and start the next step. Teams can also build their own agents in Agent Studio and drop them into Workflow Builder.
The agents suit legal, sales and procurement teams already on Docusign that want first-pass review and post-signature tracking handled for them. They come with IAM Professional at $80 per user a month on an annual plan, and with Enterprise, IAM for Sales and IAM Platform. We score them 8.9/10 on our scale, led by integrations, security and user ratings.

Docusign Agent Rollout Facts
We drew these from Docusign’s press releases, its community FAQ, its IAM price list and Capterra.

| Professional price | $80 per user a month, annual, three-user minimum | Docusign IAM pricing |
| User rating | 4.7 of 5 from 9,532 reviews (Docusign overall) | Capterra |
The customer counts matter because agents only help where agreements already live. About 40,000 companies run IAM, so they can turn the agents on without moving contracts to a new system. The region and language limits matter just as much: a company with contracts in German or data hosted in Europe should confirm availability before planning a rollout.
Docusign also cited a 2026 Deloitte report finding nearly 30% higher ROI for organizations that pair AI workflows with an end-to-end agreement platform. That is a broad industry figure, so treat it as context for the category.
Where Docusign Agents Act in an Agreement
Docusign Review Agents Before Signing
A review agent reads an incoming or outgoing agreement and compares it with company standards, past negotiations and accepted terms. It suggests edits and can request approvals from the right people automatically. Agents can be called from the Iris chat or run in the background, with human oversight where needed.
The Iris Assistant
Iris is the chat layer. Users ask questions about an agreement, surface key terms and obligations, and redline or act on them in plain language. Answers come with citations back to the contract text, so a reviewer can check each point against the clause it came from. Worksheets in Agreement Manager, also generally available, give teams an AI-assisted view across many agreements at once.
Docusign Monitoring Agents After Signing
Monitoring agents watch contracts once they are signed. They flag risks, track obligations such as renewal dates or delivery terms, and trigger next steps so nobody has to chase them by hand. Thrive Market said in the launch release that contracts close faster and renewals are tracked without chasing them down. Payroll firm Payworks cited 98% client retention and an NPS above 55 alongside faster, more consistent onboarding on Docusign.
Agent Studio and Workflow Builder
Agent Studio is where teams find ready-made agents and build custom ones for deals, renewals and approvals. A custom agent can be added as a step in Workflow Builder, and its structured output can route a contract, start an approval or escalate a problem. Agents work inside IAM permissions and governance controls, so agents follow the same access rules that already govern people in the account.
MCP and Partner Connections
The Docusign MCP server, in global open beta in English, connects agreement data to Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini. IAM also links to Coupa, Microsoft Copilot, Salesforce, SAP and Slack, and legal teams can use Harvey, Legora and CoCounsel by Thomson Reuters alongside it.
Department Editions Around the Agents
Docusign packages IAM by team as well as by tier, and the agents sit inside several of those editions. The May release set out where each one stood.
| Edition or Feature | Status in the May 21 Release | Agent Relevance |
|---|---|---|
| IAM for Sales | Available globally | Agents included per the August FAQ; CRM links to Salesforce, Dynamics 365 and HubSpot |
| IAM for HR | U.S. early access from June 2026 | HCM integrations and Mobile I-9 verification |
| AI-assisted Web Forms | Global from June 2026 | Feeds agreement data into workflows |
| Docusign MCP | Global beta, English | Lets outside assistants reach agreement data |
Sales teams outside North America can already buy IAM for Sales, but the August FAQ ties general availability of the agents to North American data centers, so non-U.S. sales teams should confirm which pieces their account receives.
Docusign IAM Plans and Agent Access
| Plan | Price | Users | Agents Included |
|---|---|---|---|
| IAM Starter | $45 per user/month, annual ($540/year) | 1 to 50 | Not on the agent list |
| IAM Standard | $50 per user/month, annual | 3 to 50 | Not on the agent list |
| IAM Professional | $80 per user/month, annual | 3 to 50 | Yes |
| IAM Enterprise | Quote | 5 or more | Yes, plus AI-Assisted Review |
| IAM for Sales and IAM Platform | Quote | Varies | Yes |
Starter and Standard include AI search, analysis and data extraction from agreements, but the August FAQ lists the agents only on Professional and above. Professional adds Agreement Desk and ten workflows. Add-ons such as SMS or WhatsApp delivery start at $0.36 each and ID verification at $2.40 an attempt.
Annual Agent Budgets for Three Teams
We worked these out from the published IAM price list.
| Team | Plan | Annual Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Three-person legal team | Professional at the minimum | $2,880 |
| Ten-person legal and sales ops group | Professional | $9,600 |
| Same group without agents | Standard | $6,000 |
For the ten-person group, the step from Standard to Professional costs $3,600 a year and brings the agents, Agreement Desk and more workflows. If review agents save each person an hour a week of first-pass contract reading, that is roughly 500 hours a year across the group, so the gap can be set against your own hourly cost. Enterprise pricing is quoted and adds AI-Assisted Review.
A Vendor NDA Run Through Docusign Agents
To show how the pieces connect, here is the path a supplier NDA would take for a procurement team on IAM Professional. Each step uses a capability Docusign describes in its releases and FAQ.
Intake and First Review
The supplier’s NDA arrives through a workflow in Workflow Builder. A custom review agent from Agent Studio, set up with the company’s NDA playbook, reads the draft and compares the term length, confidentiality scope and governing law with accepted terms from past negotiations. It suggests edits where the draft departs from the playbook.
Approval Routing
Because the agent returns structured output, the workflow can route the NDA. Clean drafts go straight to signature. Drafts with a non-standard clause trigger an approval request to legal, and the lawyer sees the agent’s suggestions with citations in the Iris panel.
After Signature
Once signed, a monitoring agent watches the agreement. It tracks the expiry date and any obligations, flags risks, and starts the next step, such as a renewal review, before the date passes.
The lawyer still decides on every non-standard clause. What changes is that standard drafts no longer wait in a queue, and nobody keeps a spreadsheet of NDA expiry dates.
Questions to Put to Docusign Before Rollout
Confirm which data center hosts your account, since general availability covers North American data centers. Ask which ready-to-deploy agents fit your contract types and how they use past negotiations. Check whether automation sends from agent-driven workflows count toward the per-user caps on your plan. If you plan to use the MCP server with Claude or ChatGPT, ask how the open beta handles permissions and logging, and when it is expected to leave beta.
Docusign Agents Compared With Ironclad, Juro and Sirion
| Agent | Entry Price | Free Option | Main Strength | Main Limit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Docusign Iris agents | IAM Professional $80 per user/month | Free trial on Docusign plans | Agents sit where contracts are signed | English and North America only at GA |
| Ironclad AI Agents | Custom quote | Trial offers on some agents | Contract lifecycle depth for legal teams | No published prices |
| Juro | Custom quote | No | Unlimited users and workflows on every plan | No published prices |
| Sirion AgentOS | Custom quote | No | Enterprise contract management agents | Demo-led buying |
Docusign is the only one of the four with a public per-user price for the plan that includes agents. Ironclad, Juro and Sirion go deeper on contract lifecycle work for legal teams. Docusign’s case rests on reach: most counterparties already sign with it, and the agents act at the same point. Lawyers who draft in Word may also look at Spellbook. Buyers comparing document agents more broadly can also look at Box Agent, which works across a whole content library. Our document processing agents and legal agents pages list more options.
Teams That Fit Docusign Iris Agents
In-house legal teams that review many similar contracts, such as NDAs, order forms and vendor agreements, can let review agents handle the first pass against the playbook. Sales operations teams on IAM for Sales get agents next to CRM data in Salesforce, Dynamics 365 or HubSpot. Procurement teams that track supplier obligations and renewal dates can hand that watching to monitoring agents.
Companies already on IAM Professional or Enterprise pay nothing extra to try the agents, so the first step is turning them on for one contract type.
Companies with many counterparties gain the most, because the other side usually already signs through Docusign. The agents act where the contract already sits, so there is no export to a separate review tool and no second copy of the agreement to manage.
Who May Wait on Docusign Agents
Firms that need contracts reviewed in other languages, or that host data outside North America, should wait for wider availability. Small businesses on Starter or Standard would need to move up to Professional to get the agents. Law firms that negotiate highly varied agreements may prefer a dedicated legal AI tool, or connect one of Docusign’s partners such as Harvey or Legora. Teams that sign only a handful of agreements a month may not need agents at all and can stay on a lower tier.
Docusign Agent Limits and Contract Risks
At general availability the agents work in English for North American data centers only, and availability varies by region and plan. The MCP server is still an open beta. Agent suggestions on legal terms still need a lawyer’s review before acceptance, and Docusign describes human oversight for supported actions.
Capterra reviewers praise Docusign overall but mention costs that climb with volume, unexpected fees and hard cancellations. Read the renewal terms on any annual IAM commitment and confirm envelope and automation-send caps, since automation sends are limited separately from web-app envelopes. On Standard and Professional, automation sends are capped at 100 per user a year on annual plans.

Our Read on Docusign Iris Agents at 8.9 Out of 10
Docusign’s agents score 8.9 out of 10 on our scale. Integrations, security and user sentiment rate highest: the agents connect to the systems contracts touch, act within IAM permissions and come from a product with 9,532 Capterra reviews. Setup and pricing trail because agents start on the Professional tier and launched in one language and region.
A sensible first trial is one high-volume contract type with a clear playbook. Measure how many agent suggestions your lawyers accept unchanged over a month.
If most suggestions pass with small edits, widen the agent to the next contract type. If many need rework, tighten the playbook first; the agents compare drafts with accepted terms and company policies, so a clearer playbook gives them a better baseline.
