Sixfold says its software has processed more than 1.5 million insurance submissions across over 50 lines of business. The New York startup, founded in 2023, sells an AI Underwriter that reads incoming submissions, judges whether a risk fits a carrier’s appetite and suggests what to do next. Zurich North America, Guardian, AXIS, Generali GC&C and Skyward Specialty are among its named customers.
How It Works
When a submission arrives, the AI Underwriter extracts and cleans the data, points out what is missing, checks appetite and portfolio fit, and draws on what it has learned about the broker and the risk class. It then returns a recommendation with a rationale and a suggested next step. Carriers can set it up for straight-through processing, in which case it prepares materials that are ready to quote and bind.
Each insurer gets its own instance of the underlying model, tuned to that carrier’s book and guidelines, and Sixfold states that one carrier’s data never trains another’s. The tool sits on top of the underwriting workbench and policy administration systems a carrier already uses rather than replacing them. A life and health version covers life, disability, long-term care and critical illness cases. It suggests whether to rate, refer, decline or postpone, and cites the source documents and underwriting manual provisions behind each call.
Pricing
Sixfold does not publish prices. Contracts are sold directly to carriers and scoped to the lines of business and the level of automation each one wants. Buyers should expect an enterprise sales process and a pilot rather than a free trial.
What to Watch Out For
Results claims, such as processing speed gains of 50% to 97% and higher hit ratios, come from Sixfold and its clients rather than independent audits. A third-party listing reports that the platform is cloud only and that its security page names no SOC 2 or ISO certification, although it describes encryption and regular penetration testing. Carriers also keep the duty to validate decisions when the system acts on its own, so compliance and actuarial teams should be involved from the start.
