Persona is a configurable identity verification platform for onboarding, and its newest piece is Case Review Agents: AI agents that read each flagged case, weigh the evidence and recommend, or if you allow it, make the approve, decline or escalate decision. Persona says the agents match past reviewer decisions more than 90% of the time when backtested on a customer’s own history. Essential starts at $250 a month on a 12-month term.
Persona fits online platforms, marketplaces and fintechs with large identity programs and a manual review queue. OpenAI, LinkedIn, Etsy, Twilio and Block are customers. Small businesses with a handful of verifications a month may prefer month-to-month pay-as-you-go pricing. Case Review Agents are in early access. Persona scores 8.3/10 on our scale.

The 90% agreement figure needs context. It measures how often the agent would have made the same call as the customer’s own reviewers on past cases, which is the right test for automating a queue. A team can set a confidence bar: let the agent decide where agreement is high and send the rest to people.
The 75 million spoof attempts show the scale of fraud Persona sees. That volume is part of what a buyer pays for, since detection improves with exposure to attacks.
The customer list matters too. OpenAI, LinkedIn, Etsy, Twilio and Block run large sign-up volumes and attract determined fraud. A vendor trusted at that scale has had to handle edge cases a smaller platform may meet only occasionally.
How Persona Verifies Users and Reviews Cases
Persona has two layers: the verification flow a user goes through, and the case work that follows when something needs a closer look.
Building the Verification Flow
Teams assemble flows from verification types: government ID, selfie, phone, email and database checks, plus KYB for businesses on higher plans. Persona offers templated, pre-configured flows on Essential and more advanced products on Growth. An AI assistant helps build flows. Persona describes the platform as configurable and privacy-first.
Liveness, Spoof Detection and Graph
Liveness detection catches face spoofs, including AI-generated attempts. Graph, on Growth, links related accounts, which helps spot fraud rings that reuse devices, documents or details across sign-ups.
When a Case Opens
A case opens when a user finishes an inquiry that needs review or another event triggers one, such as a mismatch between ID and selfie or a risk rule.
What the Case Review Agent Does
- Gathers: Reads case data, account history, inquiry results and external context from integrations.
- Weighs: Assesses the signals against the team’s review instructions.
- Recommends: Proposes approve, decline or escalate with a structured summary and an audit trail of the signals it used.
- Acts or hands off: Applies the decision automatically or sends it to a reviewer, depending on team settings.
- Improves: Adjusts instructions, capabilities and data access based on outcomes and reviewer feedback.
Controls Over Agents and Data
Teams choose the LLM provider, set data retention, control access and mask PII so agents and reviewers see only what they need. Before going live, agents are backtested on the organization’s historical cases, and a dashboard tracks their performance afterward.
Running a Backtest Before Go-Live
The backtest is where a trust team decides how much to hand over. A practical approach, based on how Persona describes the process:
- Pick case types: Split the queue into types such as name mismatch, poor image quality, suspected document fraud and watchlist hits.
- Backtest each type: Run the agent on several months of past cases and compare its calls with the reviewers’ decisions.
- Set the bar: Allow automatic decisions only where agreement is high and the cost of a wrong call is low.
- Keep recommend mode elsewhere: For the rest, the agent writes a summary and a recommendation, and a reviewer decides.
- Review monthly: Use the performance dashboard to widen or narrow the agent’s scope as results come in.
Declines usually deserve more caution than approvals, since a wrong decline turns away a real customer and may need an appeal path.
A Marketplace Review Queue With Agents
Picture a rental marketplace that verifies hosts with ID and selfie. Most pass instantly, but a few hundred a week land in review: blurry IDs, name mismatches after marriage, selfies in poor light. The trust team backtests a Case Review Agent on three months of past decisions, sees high agreement on name-mismatch cases and lower agreement on suspected document fraud. It lets the agent decide name mismatches automatically and sends document fraud cases to reviewers with the agent’s summary attached. Reviewers spend their week on the hard cases.
What the Trust Team Still Owns
People write the review policy, choose which case types the agent may decide, handle escalations and answer for decisions to regulators or users. Persona’s design keeps that choice with the customer.
Persona Plans, Terms and Verification Costs
Persona sells three tiers on annual terms and charges per successful verification.
| Plan | Price | Term | What Is Included | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | From $250 a month | 12-month minimum | Templated identity services, business logic automation, self-guided setup, email support, SOC 2 Type 2 hosting | Self-guided |
| Growth | Quote | Contract | Essential plus full verification suite including KYB, Graph, Marketplace apps, guided implementation, redaction and permissions | Recommended by Persona |
| Enterprise | Custom | Contract | Growth plus bespoke KYC and AML programs, multi-organization partitioning, early access to new products | Multi-product pricing |
| Startup Program | Free services for one year | Eligibility required | Monthly allotment of select products | For SMBs, startups and developers |
Annual Commitments Worked Out
- Essential at the entry price: $250 a month for 12 months is a $3,000 annual commitment, before per-verification charges.
- A startup in the program: Free monthly services for a year on select products, then a move to a paid plan.
- A platform needing KYB and Graph: Growth is quoted, so ask for the per-verification rate at your expected volume and the cost of agents.
Persona does not publish per-verification rates on the pricing page. Ask for them in writing at three volumes: today’s, double and triple, since identity costs grow with sign-ups.
Questions for the Persona Account Team
- Verification rates: What is the price per successful verification for each check type at our volume?
- Agent access: Are Case Review Agents available on our plan, and is there a separate charge for them?
- LLM costs: If we choose our own LLM provider, who pays the model usage?
- Contract flexibility: Can volume commitments be adjusted mid-term if sign-ups change?
- Implementation: What does guided implementation on Growth include, and how long does it usually take?
Persona Compared With Sumsub, Fenergo and Arva AI
All four handle compliance onboarding; they differ in pricing model, customer size and where the agents sit.
| Agent | Starting Price | Free Plan | Main Strength | Main Weakness | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Persona | $250 a month, 12-month term | Startup program | Configurable flows and case review agents with backtesting | Agents in early access; Growth quoted | Platforms with large review queues |
| Sumsub | $1.35 per verification, $149 minimum | Trial | Published per-check prices and agents that build setup from a policy | Per-use add-ons | Online businesses verifying consumers |
| Fenergo | Quote-based | No | KYRA agents across bank client lifecycle management | Enterprise implementation | Large banks and asset managers |
| Arva AI | Quote-based | No | Agents that handle KYB and AML reviews | Young company | Fintechs and banks onboarding businesses |
Persona and Sumsub overlap most. Sumsub is easier to start month to month at published per-check prices; Persona offers deeper configuration and agents aimed at the review queue. Fenergo and Arva AI serve banks and business onboarding.
Persona Versus Building Case Review In-House
Some platforms consider pointing a general LLM at their review queue themselves. Persona’s agents come with the parts that take longest to build: access to the full case record and verification signals, backtesting against past decisions, an audit trail per decision, PII masking and a performance dashboard. A team building its own would need all of that before a regulator or auditor would accept automated decisions. Persona also lets the customer pick the LLM provider, so the model choice is not locked in.

Platforms With Large Identity Review Queues
- Marketplaces and gig platforms: High sign-up volume creates review queues that Case Review Agents target.
- AI and software companies verifying users: OpenAI and LinkedIn are named customers.
- Fintechs needing KYC and KYB: Growth adds KYB for onboarding business customers.
- Teams that want control over AI: Choice of LLM provider, PII masking and recommend-only mode suit cautious trust teams.
- Services with age requirements: KJM and ACCS age assurance certifications help platforms that must confirm users are adults in Germany or the UK.
Businesses That May Prefer Another Verification Setup
- Small businesses with low volume: A 12-month minimum may not suit a business verifying a few dozen users a month; Sumsub starts at $149 a month.
- Banks onboarding corporate clients: Fenergo covers multi-entity client lifecycle work.
- Teams needing agents in production now: Case Review Agents are in early access, so confirm timing with your account team.
Contract Terms, Agent Access and Setup Time
- Annual term: Essential needs a 12-month minimum. Plan volume carefully before signing.
- Early access: Case Review Agents are available through account teams. Ask for the rollout date on your plan.
- Implementation: G2 reviewer data shows about two months. Budget engineering time for flows and SDKs.
- Agent scope: Start in recommend-only mode and allow automatic decisions case type by case type.
- Cost visibility: Per-verification rates are not on the pricing page. Get them in writing.
- Appeals for declined users: If agents decline users automatically, keep a clear appeal path so a real customer who was wrongly declined can reach a person.
- Perceived cost: G2 reviewer data rates Persona at the top of the cost scale. Compare total yearly cost, including verifications, with at least one rival quote.
Persona’s Series D and Agent Early Access
In May 2025, Pulse 2.0 reported that Persona raised a $200 million Series D at a $2 billion valuation, co-led by Founders Fund and Ribbit Capital with BOND, Coatue, First Round, Index and Chemistry. CEO Rick Song framed identity as the way to know who is behind each action, whether a person or an AI agent acting for one.
On May 7, 2026, Persona opened early access to Case Review Agents, describing backtesting on each customer’s history and 90%+ accuracy in matching past reviewer decisions.
Persona for Teams Ready to Automate Case Review
Persona scores 8.3/10 on our scale. Configurable flows, strong data controls and agents that can take over routine review decisions make it a serious option for platforms with large identity programs.
It could improve by publishing Growth pricing and per-verification rates, and by moving Case Review Agents to general availability. For smaller businesses that need month-to-month terms, Sumsub is easier to start. For teams with a review backlog, the backtest on past cases is the test that matters, because it shows agreement on your own data before anything goes live.
A reasonable first goal is to clear the most routine third of the queue automatically while reviewers keep the rest. If the agent holds its agreement rate on live cases for a month, widen its scope one case type at a time.
