Canva’s AI products had been used more than 27 billion times by April 2026, and usage had tripled in a year, according to the company. That month Canva launched Canva AI 2.0, which turns its design assistant into an agent: it breaks a brief into steps, uses Canva’s own tools to build each piece, pulls context from apps such as Slack, Zoom and HubSpot and runs repeat jobs on a schedule. Canva ended 2025 with $4 billion in annual recurring revenue and 265 million monthly users.
Canva AI is best for marketers, small businesses and anyone who needs a steady stream of on-brand graphics, decks and documents without a designer. AI usage metering is the main planning point: paid plans state allowances as multiples of a Free allowance that was reduced to 20 uses in October 2026, and heavy users may need a $100 per user AI Pass, so fixed, published limits would help buyers. Pro starts at $18 a month. We rate it 8.9/10 on our scale. We have not used Canva AI ourselves; this review is based on coverage of Canva’s launch, a tracker of its pricing page and Capterra reviews.
Canva AI 2.0 and a $4 Billion ARR Backdrop
- Canva AI 2.0 coordinates Canva’s tools across multi-step briefs and returns layered, editable designs built by the Canva Design Model.
- Canva reported $4 billion ARR, 265 million monthly users and 31 million paid subscribers at the end of 2025, and more than 27 billion AI uses.
- Pro costs $18 a month or $144 a year; Business $25 per user per month; AI Pass adds much higher AI limits for $100 per user per month.
- Connectors to Slack, Gmail, Google Drive, Calendar, Notion, Zoom and HubSpot bring real work context into designs; scheduled tasks stop at drafts.
- Against Adobe Express AI Assistant and Lovart, Canva has the deepest workplace connectors and the largest user base, with AI limits that are the hardest of the three to predict.
Scale Figures From One of the Biggest Software Firms
Canva is one of the largest software companies to build an agent into an existing product, which shows in its numbers. Most of the facts below come from coverage of the Canva AI 2.0 launch, plus a tracker that archives Canva’s pricing page.
| Fact | Detail | Source and Date |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | $4 billion in annual recurring revenue by the end of 2025 | CMSWire, April 16, 2026 |
| Users | 265 million monthly active users and 31 million paid subscribers at the end of 2025 | CMSWire, April 16, 2026 |

| Design model | The Canva Design Model powered Magic Layers, used more than nine million times after its March 2026 public beta | CMSWire, April 16, 2026 |
| Launch scale | Canva AI 2.0 launched as a research preview for up to one million users | CMSWire, April 16, 2026 |
| Acquisitions | Deals in early 2026 included Cavalry, MangoAI, Simtheory (agentic AI) and Ortto (customer data and marketing automation) | CMSWire, April 16, 2026 |

| Free AI cut | Free allowance reduced to up to 20 Standard or Premium AI uses | UsagePricing tracker, October 24, 2026 |
| Pricing backlash | A September 2024 move to per-seat Teams billing produced headline increases near 317% for some legacy plans before Canva added legacy protections in October 2024 | UsagePricing tracker, viewed October 2026 |
| Capterra rating | 4.7 out of 5 from 13,463 reviews (Canva platform overall) | Capterra, viewed October 2026 |
Scale is the strongest argument for Canva AI. With 31 million paying subscribers and AI features already used billions of times, the agent sits inside a tool most marketing teams already know, so adoption costs are low. The Magic Layers figure matters too: nine million uses of layered, editable output in a few weeks suggests demand for AI designs people can still change by hand.
The pricing history is worth keeping in mind. Canva has changed seat prices and AI allowances several times, from the 2024 Teams billing change to the October 2026 reduction in Free AI uses, so checking AI limits before each renewal is a good habit.
Conversational Design and Layered Objects in the Editor
Canva AI runs inside the Canva editor. Canva AI 2.0 rests on four core capabilities: conversational design, agentic orchestration, layered object intelligence and a Memory Library, all built on the Canva Design Model, which Canva says understands design structure and hierarchy.
From Brief to Finished Designs
- Describe: the user types or pastes a brief, such as a product launch kit or a quarterly report.
- Gather context: connectors pull in material from Slack, Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Notion, Zoom or HubSpot, and web research can add sourced facts as editable content.
- Orchestrate: the agent splits a multi-step brief into tasks and uses Canva’s design tools for each one.
- Deliver layered output: designs come back as separate editable objects rather than flat images, so a person can change any element.
- Apply the brand: Brand Intelligence applies fonts, colors and styles, and can update existing designs to a revised brand in one step.
Scheduled and Background Work
Scheduling runs repeatable tasks in the background, such as a weekly batch of social posts or a recurring report. These tasks create drafts for review and do not publish on their own, which keeps a person in charge of what goes out. Web research can also run on a schedule to refresh content.
Beyond Graphics
Canva Code 2.0 builds interactive pages and forms from prompts, adds HTML import, and can send form responses into Canva Sheets. Sheets AI generates structured spreadsheets such as budgets, timelines and content calendars from plain descriptions. The Memory Library keeps preferences, brand styles and past projects so the agent does not start from zero each time.
Signing In and Loading a Brand Kit
- Sign in: core AI features are available on the Free plan; paid plans raise AI limits.
- Set up a brand: load brand fonts, colors and styles so Brand Intelligence has something to apply.
- Connect apps: link the workplace tools the agent should read from, such as Google Drive or HubSpot.
- Create schedules: define recurring jobs and who reviews the drafts.
Drafts Need Approval and Web Facts Need Checking
People still approve every scheduled draft, check facts pulled from the web or connected apps and judge whether a design is right for its audience. Capterra reviewers report that AI output can take several attempts and that precise spacing and sizing need manual work.
AI Limits That Rise With Each Plan
Canva AI is included in Canva’s plans, with AI usage limits that rise by tier. Prices below are as recorded by UsagePricing from Canva’s US pricing page on October 24, 2026. Paid AI allowances are published as multiples of the Free allowance.
| Plan | Price | Billing | What’s Included | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | None | Core AI features and the Canva editor | Up to 20 Standard or Premium AI uses; no Ultra |
| Pro | $18 a month or $144 a year | Monthly or annual | One person; shared AI pool including Premium and Ultra | About 10 times the Free AI allowance |
| Business | $25 per user per month or $250 per user per year | Monthly or annual | Team features, AI top-ups available | About 20 times the Free AI allowance |
| Enterprise | Custom | Sales-led | Custom controls | About 20 times the Free AI allowance |
| AI Pass add-on | $100 per user per month | On top of the seat | Much higher AI rate limits | Up to 40 times the Pro or 20 times the Business allowance |
A Freelancer’s $144 Year on Pro
These scenarios use the published plan prices; team sizes are our own illustrations.
- A freelancer on Pro, annual: $144 a year works out to $12 a month for one person with about 10 times the Free AI allowance.
- A five-person marketing team on Business: $125 a month on monthly billing, or $1,250 a year on annual billing against $1,500 a year paid monthly.
- The same team with three heavy AI users: adding AI Pass for three people costs $300 a month, or $3,600 a year, on top of the seats. Each of those users then costs $125 a month in total.
Costs to plan for: AI top-ups on Business when the pool runs out, the step up to AI Pass for anyone who uses the agent all day, and the fact that allowances are multiples of a Free figure that Canva has already changed once in 2026.
Canva AI Compared With Adobe Express AI Assistant, Lovart and Figma Design Agent
Design agents for marketing content split between mass-market editors with AI built in, such as Canva and Adobe Express, and AI-first studios such as Lovart. Figma’s agent serves product designers instead.
| Agent | Starting Price | Free Plan | Main Strength | Main Trade-Off | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Canva AI | Free; Pro $18 a month | Yes | Workplace connectors, scheduling and a huge template base | AI limits stated as multiples and recently reduced on Free | Marketing teams and small businesses |
| Adobe Express AI Assistant | Free; Premium $9.99 a month | Yes (limited AI Assistant use) | Adobe Stock assets and Firefly plus partner models | Beta, desktop only, not yet on Teams or Enterprise plans | Individuals who want Adobe assets and conversational edits |
| Lovart | Free; paid reported from about $19 a month | Limited | AI-first studio for brand kits, packaging and storyboards | Credit amounts vary between published snapshots | Designers producing many brand assets |
| Figma Design Agent | $16 per full seat a month, annual (reported) | No | Edits real product design files | Paid Figma plans only | Product and UI design teams |
For most marketing teams, the choice is between Canva and Adobe Express. Canva AI goes further on agentic work, with connectors and scheduled tasks, while Adobe Express is cheaper to start and draws on Adobe’s asset library. Lovart suits designers who want an AI studio for brand work, and Figma’s agent is for software interfaces. See more in our AI agents for design and AI agents for marketing guides.
Recurring Marketing Content and Designer-Free Shops
- Marketing teams with recurring content: scheduled tasks can draft weekly social batches and reports for review.
- Small businesses without a designer: the Free plan includes core AI features, and Pro costs $12 a month on annual billing.
- Teams that live in Slack, Google Workspace, Notion or HubSpot: connectors turn meeting notes, files and CRM data into designs.
- Brand managers: Brand Intelligence applies brand styles and can update existing designs to a new brand in one step.
- Existing Canva customers: the agent works inside the editor and design library people already use.
UI Designers and Precision-Minded Professionals May Prefer Pro Tools
- Product and UI designers: Figma Design Agent or Google Stitch fit software interface work better.
- Professional designers who need precision: reviewers mention limited control over spacing, sizing and advanced editing.
- Heavy AI users on a tight budget: all-day agent use can push a seat to $125 a month once AI Pass is added.
- Teams that want hands-off publishing: scheduled tasks stop at drafts by design.
- Buyers who need fixed AI quotas in writing: paid allowances are published as multiples rather than exact counts.
Free AI Uses Set at 20 and a $100 AI Pass
- Changing AI limits: the Free allowance was reduced to 20 uses in October 2026, and paid tiers are defined relative to it.
- AI Pass costs: at $100 per user per month, AI Pass costs more than five times a Pro subscription.
- Research preview roots: Canva AI 2.0 launched to up to one million users before a wider rollout, so features may still change.
- Pricing history: the 2024 move to per-seat Teams billing produced headline increases near 317% for some legacy customers before Canva softened it.
- Connected data: connectors read from email, files, calendars and CRM; set up access deliberately and decide who can see the resulting designs.
- Plan contents shift: Leonardo.Ai was removed from the Business listing in August 2026, a reminder to check what each plan includes at renewal.
October 2026 Limits and the New AI Pass
- On October 24, 2026, UsagePricing recorded a cut to Canva Free AI uses to up to 20 Standard or Premium uses, alongside the $100 AI Pass add-on.
- On August 30, 2026, according to the same tracker, Leonardo.Ai was removed from the Business plan listing while the seat price stayed the same.
- On April 16, 2026, CMSWire reported the launch of Canva AI 2.0 at Canva Create in Los Angeles, Canva’s biggest launch since 2013, with connectors, scheduling, web research and the Canva Design Model.
- In early 2026, Canva bought Cavalry and MangoAI and announced deals for Simtheory and Ortto on April 9, CMSWire reported.
For Teams Already in Canva, an Easy Win at 7.7
For marketing teams and small businesses already on Canva, yes. Canva AI scores 8.9/10 on our scale: strong on ease of setup, connectors and user sentiment, with room to grow through clearer AI limits and a move beyond research preview. The agent does real multi-step work, from turning a Zoom transcript into a summary design to drafting a week of social posts on a schedule, and its output stays editable.
The trade-off is metering. Paid allowances are multiples of a Free figure that changed in October 2026, and anyone who leans on the agent all day may need AI Pass at $100 per user per month. Start on Pro or Business, track how quickly the AI pool runs down in a busy month, and add AI Pass only for the people who hit the limit.
Is Canva AI Free, and What Pro Adds
Is Canva AI Free?
Core AI features are on the Free plan, which since October 2026 includes up to 20 Standard or Premium AI uses. Pro costs $18 a month or $144 a year with about 10 times that allowance.
What Is Canva AI Pass?
AI Pass is an add-on at $100 per user per month on top of a seat. It gives up to 40 times the Pro AI allowance or 20 times the Business allowance, for people who use AI heavily.
What Is New in Canva AI 2.0?
Launched in April 2026, it adds agentic orchestration, layered and editable output from the Canva Design Model, connectors to apps such as Slack and HubSpot, scheduled tasks, web research and a Memory Library.
Can Canva AI Post to Social Media on Its Own?
Scheduled tasks such as weekly social batches create drafts for review rather than publishing on their own. A person approves what goes out.
Is Canva AI Better Than Adobe Express AI Assistant?
Canva AI goes further on agentic work, with workplace connectors and scheduled tasks, and is available across Canva’s plans. Adobe Express is cheaper to start at $9.99 a month for Premium, but its AI Assistant is a desktop beta not yet offered on Teams or Enterprise plans.
