OpusClip Score

Our editorial score across six weighted criteria, based on OpusClip’s published documentation, pricing and public user ratings. How we score

  • Autonomy8.8

It picks moments, cuts, reframes, captions and scores clips and can auto-post or schedule them, and Agent Opus builds whole videos from a brief, with editors choosing and checking clips.

  • Ease of Setup9.5

Anyone can start on the Free plan or a no-card trial of Starter or Pro by uploading a video or pasting a link.

  • Pricing Value8.8

Prices are published from $15 a month and Pro costs $174 a year on annual billing; every feature draws on a shared credit pool that can need top-ups.

  • Integrations8.5

It posts to YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Instagram Reels, takes 10+ input sources, exports to Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, and offers an API that is limited on Pro and full on Business.

  • Trust and Security8.5

The pricing page lists SOC 2 Type 2 compliance and email one-time-passcode login, and the Business plan adds an MSA and enterprise-level security.

  • User Sentiment8.7

G2 rates it 4.6 from 124 reviews and Trustpilot 4.0 from 512, adjusted because about 20% of Trustpilot reviews are one star, citing slow support and credit errors.

OpusClip says more than 10 million creators and brands have used it, and that in the year before March 2025 they produced more than 172 million clips with over 57 billion views. Univision, Billboard and iHeartMedia are among the media companies it names. The tool takes long video, picks the moments most likely to travel on social media, and turns them into captioned vertical clips it can post for you.

It is the best low-cost option on our list for publishers, podcasters and media brands that turn recorded shows and interviews into a daily stream of shorts. Credits are the main thing to plan for: every feature draws on one monthly pool, and some reviewers report support delays and billing errors. A free plan covers 60 credits a month, paid plans start at $15, and annual Pro works out to $174 a year. We rate it 8.8/10 on our scale. We have not used OpusClip ourselves; this review is based on its pricing page and announcements, public reviews and a third-party explainer of Agent Opus.

10 Million Creators and 172 Million Clips a Year

  • OpusClip reports more than 10 million creators and brands, 172 million clips made in a year and over 57 billion views, with customers such as Univision, Billboard and iHeartMedia.
  • Plans: Free with 60 credits a month, Starter at $15 a month, Pro at $29 a month or $14.50 a month billed annually, and custom Business.
  • Annual Pro gives about twice the credits per dollar of Starter: 300 credits for $14.50 a month against 150 for $15.
  • G2 rates OpusClip 4.6 from 124 reviews; Trustpilot rates it 4.0 from 512, with about one in five reviews at one star.
  • Agent Opus extends the product from clipping to making whole videos from a brief, script or article link.

The usage numbers show scale few rivals publish, and the customer list shows the product has moved past solo creators into music, broadcast radio and Spanish-language television. For a media buyer, that matters because the same tool already handles very different kinds of talk-led video.

The ratings split is the more useful signal for buyers. A 4.6 on G2, where reviewers tend to be business users, sits next to a 4.0 on Trustpilot with a large one-star share. The concerns cluster around support response times and credits, not the core clipping, so it pays to watch credit use closely in the first month.

One Long Video Into Many Shorts, Plus Agent Opus

OpusClip is a web app. The core workflow turns one long video into many short ones, and Agent Opus adds a way to make videos from scratch.

Clipping a Long Video

  • Import: upload a file or paste a link from one of more than 10 supported input sources.
  • Select: the AI finds the segments most likely to work as shorts and gives each clip a Virality Score.
  • Format: clips are reframed for vertical, square or horizontal screens, with animated captions in more than 20 languages, emoji and keyword highlights.
  • Polish: paid plans remove filler words and silences, apply brand templates and fonts, add AI B-roll, enhance speech and offer dubbing.
  • Publish: clips post directly to YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Instagram Reels, go into a scheduler, or export to Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve for finishing.

Agent Opus

Agent Opus is OpusClip’s video-making agent, and the pricing page lists AI video B-roll as powered by it. A July 2026 explainer by developer Mervin Praison describes a chain of specialist steps: a researcher gathers context, a scriptwriter structures narration, a storyboard step maps scenes, an asset step pulls the user’s uploads first, then licensed stock, then web sources, and an editor assembles the cut with captions and the brand kit. Users can choose from more than 30 AI voices or clone their own, and one job produces 9:16, 1:1 and 16:9 versions. The explainer says inputs can be a one-line brief, a full script, an outline or an article URL, which makes it relevant for publishers turning stories into video.

OpusSearch for Back Catalogs

Launched in March 2025, OpusSearch lets professional creators and businesses search their video catalogs, reuse clips, build topic-specific channels and respond to trends within minutes. For a publisher with years of interviews and shows, that turns an archive into new short-form material.

Where It Fits for Publishers

Most newsrooms and media brands already record more video than they publish: interviews, studio segments, live streams, podcasts with cameras and event panels. The bottleneck is the social edit, where someone has to find the 40 good seconds, reframe it, caption it and post it on several platforms. OpusClip automates that step. A producer can drop in a full interview after it airs, review the suggested clips with their scores, fix any caption errors and schedule the best ones across TikTok, Shorts and Reels in one session.

For bigger operations, the pieces that matter are team workspaces, brand templates that keep every clip on style, the export to Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve when a clip needs finishing, and the API for wiring clipping into a content system. Those sit on Pro and Business.

Picking Clips and Checking Captions Before Posting

Someone still picks which suggested clips go out, checks captions and names, and decides what should never be auto-posted. The Virality Score is a guide to engagement, not to accuracy or fairness. Teams also need to manage credits, seats and connected social accounts.

Monthly Credits Shared by Clipping, Agents and Scheduling

OpusClip publishes its prices. All plans run on monthly credits, and agent features, clipping and scheduling draw from the same pool.

$180 a Year for a Podcaster on Starter

  • A solo podcaster: Starter for a year costs $180 ($15 x 12) for 150 credits a month. Annual Pro costs $174 for 300 credits a month plus scheduling and a second seat, so a podcaster who expects to keep going for a year pays less and gets twice the credits on Pro.
  • A small publisher’s social team: Pro billed monthly costs $348 a year ($29 x 12), against $174 on annual billing, a saving of $174. Two seats and six social accounts are included, enough for a two-person team running a handful of brand accounts.
  • A media group with many shows: once you need more seats, more social accounts, a full API or a contract with an MSA, you move to Business, which is priced by quote. Heavy users on Pro can also add credit packs, up to 15, or buy top-ups.

Credits per dollar make the plans easier to compare: Starter gives 10 credits per dollar, Pro monthly about 10.3, and Pro annual about 20.7. Watch for other costs in credits spent on retries; Trustpilot reviewers report caption fixes and failed uploads using up credits.

OpusClip Compared With Descript Underlord, HeyGen Video Agent and Magnifi

OpusClip sits between editing tools and enterprise highlight engines. Descript edits recorded media, HeyGen builds avatar-led videos, and Magnifi clips live sports feeds for rights holders.

AgentStarting PriceFree PlanMain StrengthMain Trade-OffBest For

MagnifiCustom quoteNo (free trial for qualifying use cases)Real-time highlights from live sports streamsNo public pricesSports rights holders and broadcasters

For turning existing shows into shorts, OpusClip is the fastest and cheapest to start. Descript fits teams that also need to edit the full episode. HeyGen makes new videos with a digital presenter rather than cutting existing footage. Magnifi and WSC Sports serve live sports rights holders. Publishers that mainly share articles may prefer Echobox for social posting. See more in our AI agents for media and social media guides.

Podcasters and Media Brands With Interview Video

  • Podcast and audio publishers: iHeartMedia is a named customer, and talk content clips well into shorts.
  • Media brands with video interviews: Univision and Billboard show the fit for entertainment and music publishers.
  • Small social teams: Pro includes two seats, six social accounts and a scheduler for $174 a year on annual billing.
  • Creators with large back catalogs: OpusSearch helps reuse old episodes as new clips.
  • Publishers testing video from articles: Agent Opus can start from an article link or script.

Live Sports Broadcasters and Frame-Level Editors

  • Live sports broadcasters: real-time highlights from league feeds need WSC Sports or Magnifi.
  • Editors who want frame-level control: manual editing is limited; export to Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, or use Descript.
  • Teams that need a full API on a small budget: full API access sits on the custom Business plan.
  • Buyers who need fast, guaranteed support: Trustpilot reviewers report slow replies on lower plans.

One Credit Pool and Two-Month Rollover on Pro

Credits. Clipping, agent features and scheduling share one credit pool. Pro credits roll over for two months, but heavy months can still run dry, and top-ups add cost. Check credit use weekly in the first month.

Billing and support. On Trustpilot, about 20% of 512 reviews are one star. Reviewers cite slow support, refunds that take time, upload failures and credits deducted in error, and one reviewer would like unused credits to last longer than 12 months.

Accuracy. Captions and AI text can contain mistakes, and reviewers say fixes can cost extra credits. Names, quotes and figures in news clips need a human check before posting.

Free plan limits. Free clips are watermarked and exports and storage expire after three days, so download what you want to keep.

Agent Opus sourcing. When it pulls footage from the web for niche topics, review rights and brand safety, and upload your own assets where possible.

SoftBank Funding and the OpusSearch Launch

Easy to Start and Openly Priced for Long-Form Creators

For publishers and creators who already record long-form video, yes. OpusClip scores 8.8/10 on our scale: easy to start, openly priced and capable of running the whole path from upload to posted clip. Its reported scale, more than 172 million clips in a year, shows the core clipping works for a very wide range of users.

The areas to improve are operational. Credits can run short, and a sizable minority of Trustpilot reviewers describe slow support and billing errors. Start on the free plan or a no-card trial, track credits per published clip, and move to annual Pro once the workflow sticks. Media groups that need contracts, a full API and dedicated support should go straight to a Business quote.
