Gemini Spark is Google’s answer to the always-on personal agent, and it costs at least $99.99 a month because it comes only with Google AI Ultra. US subscribers get an agent that works in the background across Gmail, Calendar, Drive and the web, runs on schedules, and keeps up to 15 tasks going at once.
It is best for heavy Google users who want recurring errands, inbox cleanup, briefings and research done without asking each time. Two things to weigh are the price of entry and the beta label: Spark is US only for now, shares Gemini’s compute-based usage limits and acts with wide access to email, files and signed-in websites. We rate it 8.4/10 on our scale. We have not used Spark ourselves; this review is based on Google’s published announcement and plan pages, plus reporting from 9to5Google and Business Standard.
Available Only With US Google AI Ultra From $99.99
- Spark comes only with Google AI Ultra in the US: $99.99 a month for 5x Pro usage limits or $199.99 for 20x, after Google cut the top tier from $250 in May 2026.
- It runs Tasks in the background, on Schedules or event triggers, using reusable Skills, and can keep up to 15 tasks running at once.
- A remote browser uses sites you are signed into and a remote computer runs code, so Spark can complete multi-step errands, not only answer questions.
- It acts in Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets and Slides, from unsubscribing and labeling to rescheduling events and building decks.
- Against ChatGPT Work, Manus and Genspark, Spark has the deepest hold on Google’s own apps and the highest entry price.
Price, Limits and Capabilities Google Has Set Out
Spark is a new product inside a very large one, so its numbers are mostly about price, limits and capabilities set out by Google and by the outlets that covered the rollout.
| Fact | Detail | Source and Date |
|---|---|---|
| Announcement | Introduced at Google I/O as a 24/7 agent that acts on the user’s behalf, under their direction | Google blog, May 19, 2026 |
| US rollout | Available to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the US on web, Android and iOS, labeled beta | 9to5Google, May 29, 2026 |
| Entry price | New Google AI Ultra tier at $100 a month with 5x the Gemini app limits of Pro | Google blog, May 19, 2026 |
| Top tier price | Ultra cut to $200 a month from $250, with 20x the limits of Pro | Google blog, May 19, 2026 |
| Listed plan prices | Free $0, AI Plus $4.99, AI Pro $19.99, AI Ultra from $99.99 with a $199.99 tier | Google AI plans page, viewed October 2026 |
| Ultra extras | 20TB storage, priority Antigravity access and YouTube Premium individual on the $100 tier | Google blog, May 19, 2026 |
| Usage limits | Compute-based limits that refresh every five hours until a weekly cap is reached | Google blog, May 19, 2026 |
| Concurrency | Up to 15 tasks at once; schedules do not run while 15 are active | 9to5Google, May 29, 2026 |
| Tools | Remote browser that uses signed-in websites and a remote computer with code execution | 9to5Google, May 29, 2026 |
| Workspace actions | Gmail archiving, unsubscribing and labeling; Calendar scheduling; Docs, Sheets and Slides creation | Business Standard, June 1, 2026 |
The pricing story is the headline. Google created the $99.99 Ultra tier at the same I/O where it launched Spark, which puts its agent at the same entry price as OpenAI’s $100 ChatGPT Pro tier. A Google AI Pro subscriber at $19.99 who wants Spark pays $80 a month more.
The 15-task ceiling and the five-hour limit window matter more than they look. Spark shares compute with the rest of Gemini, so a day of heavy chat or research leaves less room for background tasks, and a full queue of 15 tasks also blocks scheduled runs.
A Separate Spark Tab Beside Chat in the Gemini App
Spark lives in its own tab in the Gemini app: a Spark tab in the side panel next to Chat on the web, and an entry labeled beta on Android and iOS. Users describe a task in plain language, can attach files or a notebook for context, and then watch the work unfold.
Tasks, Schedules and Skills
- Task: the goal or project, from organizing email to planning a business trip.
- Schedule: runs Spark in the background at a set date and time or when an event happens, such as a daily AI news summary at 8 a.m. These are separate from scheduled actions in Gemini chat.
- Skill: reusable instructions and context that teach Spark how to do a type of job and which tools to use. Skills can be combined, called with @ or /, or applied by Spark on its own.
What It Can Do in Google Apps
- Gmail: search and summarize threads, draft, reply and forward, apply labels, archive unwanted mail and unsubscribe from lists.
- Calendar: check and manage events, RSVP, create, reschedule or cancel events and suggest open slots for several people.
- Drive, Docs, Sheets and Slides: search files, read contents, create or edit Docs, build Sheets, generate Slides decks and rename or delete files when asked.
Beyond Google Apps
Spark connects to Connected Apps, Personal Intelligence, location and websites the user is signed into. A remote browser opens those sites and takes actions such as adding items to a cart, and a remote computer runs code for heavier jobs. Business Standard’s example: on a London trip, if a flight is delayed, Spark can alert the user, update the itinerary, use a travel-booking skill to rebook and draft a confirmation email in Gmail. Other uses include custom news digests that track how stories develop and research compilations with citations.
Watching and Steering
A task thread and work panel show planned, current and completed steps in real time, and the user can take manual control of the remote browser at any point. That makes Spark more transparent than a black-box assistant, but it also means the user, not Google, is the final check on what gets sent, booked or deleted.
Subscribing to Ultra and Finding the Spark Tab
- Subscribe: Spark requires Google AI Ultra in the US, from $99.99 a month.
- Open the Spark tab: on the web it sits next to Chat; on mobile it appears between Search chats and Daily brief.
- Connect apps: make sure Workspace apps and any Connected Apps are linked to the Gemini account.
- Start small: begin with a read-only task such as a news digest or inbox summary, then add Skills and Schedules for repeat work.
Bundled Into Ultra With No Standalone Fee
Spark has no separate price; it comes with Google AI Ultra. Prices below are from Google’s plans page and its May 2026 I/O announcement.
| Plan | Price | Billing | What’s Included | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google AI Free | $0 | None | Gemini app with Deep Research | No Spark |
| Google AI Plus | $4.99 a month | Monthly | 2x Free usage limits, Daily Brief and AI Inbox in the US | No Spark |
| Google AI Pro | $19.99 a month | Monthly | 4x Free usage limits, Chrome auto browse, Deep Research | No Spark |
| Google AI Ultra | $99.99 a month | Monthly | Gemini Spark (US), 5x Pro usage limits, 20TB storage, YouTube Premium individual, priority Antigravity access | Compute-based limits; 15 concurrent Spark tasks |
| Google AI Ultra (top tier) | $199.99 a month | Monthly | Gemini Spark (US), 20x Pro usage limits, Project Genie | Compute-based limits; 15 concurrent Spark tasks |
Limits are based on compute rather than a fixed number of prompts. They take into account prompt complexity, features used and chat length, refresh every five hours and stop at a weekly cap. When top-model caps are reached, users move to smaller models. Google says Pro and Ultra subscribers can buy top-up credits for Antigravity and Flow, with Gemini app credits announced as coming.
$1,199.88 a Year for a Heavy Google User
These scenarios use Google’s listed prices. The user profiles are our own illustrations.
- One heavy Google user on the $99.99 tier: $1,199.88 a year, which also covers 20TB of storage and YouTube Premium for that person.
- A power user on the $199.99 tier: $2,399.88 a year, about $600 a year less than the old $250 monthly price.
- A three-person team buying individual Ultra plans: three subscriptions at $99.99 come to $299.97 a month, since each person needs their own Ultra plan to use Spark with their own Gmail and Drive.
The cost to plan around is shared capacity rather than overage. Spark shares Gemini’s compute allowance, so a heavy research or coding day leaves less for background tasks. A Pro subscriber at $19.99 a month already gets Chrome auto browse and Deep Research; moving up to Ultra for Spark adds $80 a month.
Gemini Spark Compared With ChatGPT Work, Manus, Genspark Super Agent and Comet
General-purpose agents now split between assistants from the big model makers, which tie into their own apps, and independent agents that work across any website.
| Agent | Starting Price | Free Plan | Main Strength | Main Trade-Off | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gemini Spark | $99.99 a month (Google AI Ultra) | No | Background tasks with deep Gmail, Calendar and Drive access | High entry price, US-only beta | Heavy Google users who want recurring errands automated |
| ChatGPT Work | Free on desktop; $20 a month (Plus) for web and mobile | Limited | Lower entry price and 1,400+ plugins | Usage-based consumption makes costs hard to predict | People already working in ChatGPT |
| Manus | $20 a month (Pro) | Yes | Parallel sub-agents, scheduled automations and hosted web apps | Credit use varies with task complexity | Users who want an independent agent at a low price |
| Genspark Super Agent | Free; Plus $19.99 a month billed annually | Limited | Built-in slides, sheets, research and phone calls | Credits charged for failed attempts | Budget-minded users who want many output types |
| Comet by Perplexity | Free | Yes | Agent built into a free browser | Background Work mode needs a paid Perplexity plan | People who want a browsing agent at no cost |
Spark costs about five times as much to start as Manus, Genspark Plus or ChatGPT Plus. What it buys is native, first-party access to Gmail, Calendar and Drive and a background agent that runs on schedules. Users whose work lives outside Google, or who want to try an agent cheaply, should start with one of the others. See more options in our general-purpose AI agents and productivity agents guides.
Heavy Gmail Users and People Who Want Scheduled Digests
- Heavy Gmail and Calendar users: inbox cleanup, unsubscribing, labeling and rescheduling are built-in actions.
- People with recurring information needs: scheduled news digests and research compilations with citations run without a prompt each day.
- Frequent travelers: trip changes, rebooking with a travel Skill and confirmation drafts are a documented use case.
- Existing Ultra subscribers: Spark comes at no extra charge for anyone already paying for Ultra for storage or other Google AI features.
- Users who want to watch the agent work: the work panel and browser takeover let you supervise each step.
Non-US Users and Anyone Wanting a $20 Agent
- Anyone outside the US: Spark is rolling out in the US first.
- Budget-conscious users: Manus, Genspark and ChatGPT Plus offer agent features from about $20 a month.
- Teams that run on Microsoft 365 or other suites: Spark’s strongest actions are in Google’s own apps.
- Businesses with regulated data: a beta agent with access to email, files and signed-in sites needs careful review before use with client or patient information.
Beta Behavior and Permission to Delete and Send
- Beta status: Spark is labeled beta, so features and behavior may change.
- Broad permissions: it can send email, delete files when instructed, edit calendars and act on signed-in websites. Review its plan and drafts before letting it finish sensitive tasks.
- Shared limits: usage counts against the same compute-based allowance as the rest of Gemini, which refreshes every five hours up to a weekly cap.
- Fifteen-task ceiling: new requests wait once 15 tasks are active, and schedules do not run while the queue is full.
- Price of entry: Spark is not available on Plus or Pro, so it costs at least $99.99 a month.
- Region: the rollout started in the US only.
Spark Debuts at I/O 2026 With a New $100 Ultra Tier
- On May 19, 2026, Google announced Gemini Spark at I/O, along with a new $100 Google AI Ultra tier and a price cut for its top Ultra plan from $250 to $200.
- On May 29, 2026, 9to5Google reported that Spark was rolling out to Ultra subscribers in the US on web, Android and iOS, and detailed its Tasks, Schedules and Skills.
- On June 1, 2026, Business Standard explained how Spark works, including its remote browser, remote computer and Gmail, Calendar and Drive actions.
A Good Fit for US Google Users Who Can Use Ultra
For US users who already live in Google’s apps and want a background agent, yes, if the Ultra price makes sense for them. Gemini Spark scores 8.4/10 on our scale: strong on autonomy, with schedules, Skills, a remote browser and code execution, and good on Google app integration. A lower entry price, wider availability and more room in usage limits as it leaves beta would lift the score.
The math is simple. Someone already paying for Ultra gets Spark at no extra cost and should try it on recurring tasks such as inbox cleanup and daily briefings. Someone on Pro at $19.99 pays $80 a month more, and should compare that with Manus, Genspark or ChatGPT, which offer agent features for about $20 a month. Start with read-only tasks, watch the work panel and widen permissions only after Spark has proved reliable on your accounts.
Gmail and Drive Actions, Availability and Monthly Cost
How Much Does Gemini Spark Cost?
Spark is included with Google AI Ultra, which starts at $99.99 a month in the US. The top Ultra tier costs $199.99 a month with higher usage limits. Google AI Plus and Pro do not include Spark.
Is Gemini Spark Available Outside the US?
Spark rolled out first to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the US, starting at the end of May 2026. Google described the rollout as starting with the US.
What Can Gemini Spark Do in Gmail and Google Drive?
In Gmail it can search, summarize, draft, reply, forward, label, archive and unsubscribe. In Drive it can search files, edit Docs, build Sheets and Slides, and rename or delete files when instructed.
How Many Tasks Can Gemini Spark Run at Once?
Up to 15. New requests wait until a task finishes, and schedules do not run while 15 tasks are active. Usage also counts against Gemini’s compute-based limits, which refresh every five hours up to a weekly cap.
How Does Gemini Spark Compare With ChatGPT Work or Manus?
Spark has first-party access to Gmail, Calendar and Drive and runs on schedules in the background, but it starts at $99.99 a month and is US only. ChatGPT Work and Manus start around $20 a month; ChatGPT Work connects to more than 1,400 plugins and Manus splits large jobs across sub-agents, but neither has the same first-party hold on Google data.
