Phrase can now take a developer’s pull request, find the new strings, translate them with AI and commit the results back to the branch without anyone on the localization team touching it. That pipeline, which Phrase calls Zero-Touch Localization, is the clearest sign of how far its agents have moved from suggestion to action. The rest of the system works the same way: a translation agent drafts, a post-editing agent fixes, and Quality Profiles send only flagged segments to human reviewers.
Phrase AI Agents suit companies that translate software, help content and marketing copy at volume and already think in terms of translation memories and term bases. The main thing to plan for is a pricing model built on quotas for words, machine translation units and AI units, and a Team plan whose price rose about 19% in 2026, according to PricingSaaS. Software teams start at $525 a month billed annually, the Team plan costs $1,245, and we rate the product 8.6/10 on our scale. We have not used Phrase ourselves; this review is based on Phrase’s published pricing, product pages and press releases, plus public reviews.
Zero-Touch Localization From Pull Request to Commit
- Zero-Touch Localization detects new strings in a pull request, translates them and commits them back to the branch without manual steps.
- Phrase lists more than 200 integrations and an MCP server that lets Claude Desktop, Cursor and Codex manage translation memories and run quality checks.
- Published plans run from $525 a month for software teams to $1,245 a month for Team, billed annually, with a 14-day trial on all plans.
- The Team plan rose from $1,045 to $1,245 a month in April 2026, according to pricing tracker PricingSaaS.
- Capterra users rate Phrase 4.6 out of 5 from 274 reviews, though some raise concerns about billing, renewals and noisy QA checks.
Release Notes and Launch Page Figures
Phrase publishes a steady stream of release notes, and the figures below come from its own launch pages and press releases, a pricing tracker and Capterra.
| Fact | Detail | Source and Date |
|---|---|---|
| Integrations | More than 200 enterprise applications through the Blackbird partnership, 150 of them newly added, including Notion, ServiceNow, Airtable, Asana and Bynder | Phrase press release, June 10, 2026 |
| MCP server | Manages translation memories and term bases, runs quality evaluations, analysis and quoting, and handles files from MCP clients such as Claude Desktop; includes a Google Drive connector | Phrase press release, June 10, 2026 |
| Agent launch | Context-aware translation agent and automated post-editing agent powered by MT Optimize, launched as the Phrase Agentic Content System | Phrase press release, June 11, 2025 |
| Workflow speed | Orchestrator workflows that run up to 50 times faster, released with Bring Your Own Engine for custom MT or AI models | Phrase release history, December 2025 release |
| Figma sync | Pushes and pulls 42% faster, completing in seconds rather than minutes | Phrase June 2026 launch page, June 2026 |
| Video | Phrase Studio applies translation memories, glossaries and quality standards to subtitles, dubbing and audio in 130 languages, with files up to 20GB | Phrase launch page and press release, June 2026 |
| Named customers | Uber, Zendesk and Volkswagen, plus Lionbridge, Tripadvisor, Snowflake, Deliveroo, Decathlon and Braze among logos shown | Phrase press release and launch page, June 2026 |
| Team plan price | Rose from $1,045 to $1,245 a month billed annually, about 19% | PricingSaaS tracker, April 6, 2026 |
| Team plan allowances | 2,500,000 TMS words, 12,000,000 MT units and 25,000 AI units a year, 3 Orchestrator workflows | Phrase pricing page, viewed October 2026 |
| Capterra rating | 4.6 out of 5 from 274 reviews, with 4.6 for ease of use and customer service | Capterra, viewed October 2026 |
The integration count matters more than it first appears. Translation agents are only useful if content reaches them without someone exporting files, and Phrase’s 200-plus connectors, plus an MCP server that other AI tools can call, put it at the wide end of this category. A team that already writes code in Cursor or works in Claude Desktop can query translation memories or start a quality evaluation from there.
The pricing history is the other thing to weigh. A 19% jump in the Team plan in a single step, on top of quotas for words, MT units, AI units and workflow actions, means buyers should model next year’s cost as well as this year’s. Phrase could define its AI units on the pricing page; until then, ask sales how many a typical agent run consumes before you sign.
The Automated Layer of the Phrase Language Platform
Phrase AI Agents are not a separate product you buy on their own. They are the automated layer of the Phrase Language Intelligence Platform, which includes Phrase TMS for document and content translation, Phrase Strings for software localization, Phrase Orchestrator for workflows, Phrase Studio for video and Phrase Portal for self-service machine translation.
Where the Work Comes From
Content reaches the agents through connectors to content management systems, code repositories, design tools and support platforms. The June 2026 release added Notion, ServiceNow, Airtable, Asana, Bynder and Customer.io, and the March 2026 release added Salesforce Service Cloud and Braze. Developers can also use the API, the CLI or the MCP server, and anyone can type a request into Atlas, the conversational interface that carries out the task described.
Translation and Checks the Agents Run Unattended
- Translate: a context-aware translation agent drafts the target text using the project’s translation memory, term base and Style Guide. Phrase Next GenMT, its AI translation engine, combines Phrase’s MT engine with OpenAI’s GPT-4o.
- Post-edit: an automated post-editing agent powered by MT Optimize fixes the draft before any person sees it.
- Score and route: Quality Profiles assess the output against the standards used to create it and send only flagged segments to reviewers.
- Ship: in Zero-Touch Localization, Phrase detects new strings on a pull request, translates them and commits them back to the branch.
- Adapt: Style Guides apply brand tone, audience and formality rules, which are enforced from translation through quality checks.
A 14-Day Trial and Connected Repositories
- Start the trial: every plan includes a 14-day free trial of the platform with round-the-clock support.
- Connect sources: link repositories, Figma, your CMS or help desk so new content flows in automatically.
- Load language assets: import translation memories and term bases, and write Style Guides for each brand or audience.
- Set quality rules: create Quality Profiles that decide which segments pass and which go to a human.
- Build workflows: use Orchestrator to chain steps such as translation, post-editing, scoring and delivery.
Failed Quality Profiles and Style Guide Upkeep
Reviewers still handle segments that fail a Quality Profile, and someone has to maintain Style Guides, term bases and workflow rules. Phrase frames the product as one where humans decide where agents lead, so regulated content, legal text and launch-critical marketing copy can be kept on a human path. Vendor management is included from the Team plan up.
Annual Plans With Mostly Published Prices
Phrase publishes prices for most plans and bills them annually. The figures below come from Phrase’s pricing page in October 2026; the Freelancer price and the 2026 price change come from PricingSaaS. All plans include a 14-day free trial.
| Plan | Price | Billing | What’s Included | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Freelancer | $27 a month (reported) | Annual | Listed among Phrase’s Freelancer and LSP plans | Freelancer and LSP use |
| Software UI/UX | $525 a month | Annual | 15 Strings seats, 5 Portal users, 1,000,000 managed words, APIs, GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Jira and Figma integrations | 500,000 TMS words, 1,000,000 MT units and 10,000 AI units a year; 1 Orchestrator workflow |
| Team | $1,245 a month | Annual | Unlimited TMS seats, 20 Strings seats, 20 Portal users, 1,200,000 managed words, vendor management, quality assessment | 2,500,000 TMS words, 12,000,000 MT units and 25,000 AI units a year; 3 Orchestrator workflows; 30,000 workflow actions |
| Business | Custom | Annual quote | 150 Strings seats, 3,000,000 managed words, single sign-on, Drupal, Zendesk and Kontent.ai integrations | 12,000,000 TMS words, 50,000,000 MT units and 100,000 AI units a year; 100,000 workflow actions |
| Enterprise | Custom | Annual quote | Adobe Experience Manager and Contentful integrations, Premium Success Plan, user role configuration | Set by contract |
Each plan meters several things at once: TMS words processed, Strings words managed, machine translation units, AI units, Orchestrator workflows and executed workflow actions. Agents draw on these allowances, so the plan you need depends on how much content flows through automation, not only on how many people log in. Multimedia localization in Phrase Studio is an add-on.
A Freelancer Plan and Larger Localization Teams
These scenarios use Phrase’s published annual prices. The team sizes and volumes are our own illustrations.
- A freelance translator: the Freelancer plan at $27 a month comes to $324 a year, according to PricingSaaS.
- A software team localizing an app: Software UI/UX at $525 a month is $6,300 a year, with 500,000 TMS words a year, or about 41,700 words a month, before the team needs to move up.
- A content and localization team: Team at $1,245 a month is $14,940 a year. Spread across its 2,500,000 TMS words, that is about 0.6 cents per processed word in platform fees, before any human translation. The same plan cost $12,540 a year before the April 2026 increase, so the change adds $2,400 a year.
Variable costs to plan for: professional human translation and review, which are billed separately from the platform; Phrase Studio for video; extra Orchestrator workflows or AI units if your agents run more often than the plan allows; and Business features such as single sign-on, which require a quote.
Phrase AI Agents Compared With Smartling, LILT, Smartcat and XTM
The enterprise translation market has split into platforms that bolt agents onto a full translation management system and newer tools built around agents from the start. Phrase sits in the first group with Smartling and XTM.
| Agent | Starting Price | Free Plan | Main Strength | Main Trade-Off | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Phrase AI Agents | $525 a month billed annually for software teams; $27 Freelancer (reported) | No (14-day trial) | Agents inside a full TMS with 200+ integrations and an MCP server | Many quotas; Team price up about 19% in 2026 (reported) | Teams localizing software and content at volume |
| Smartling AI Agents | $49,000 for 12 months on AWS Marketplace | No | LQA Agent that can publish error-free content on its own; long certification list | Price list on request; Capterra rating to check | Large brands with strict security reviews |
| LILT | Custom quote | No | Assist agent that routes high-stakes content to human experts | No published pricing | Enterprises and public sector teams that want AI plus verified human review |
| Smartcat AI Agents | $100 a month billed annually | No (trial) | Lowest published entry price and a no-code Agent Builder | Upper tiers quote-only | Marketing and learning teams starting small |
| XTM Agent | $16,500 a year (Team, reported on Capterra) | No (trial listed) | Agent help for project managers inside XTM Cloud | Agent advises more than it acts | Localization departments running many vendors |
Phrase is the only one of these with a full published price list from $525 a month, which makes it easier to budget than Smartling or LILT. Smartling goes further on certifications and lets its LQA Agent publish clean content without review, while LILT leans on human verification for high-stakes text. Smartcat is the cheaper way in for a small team. For more options, see our AI agents for translation and enterprise AI agents guides, or compare DeepL Agent for general multilingual business tasks.
Software Teams That Ship Often
- Software teams that ship often: Zero-Touch Localization and the GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket integrations let new strings flow from pull request to translated branch without a ticket.
- Localization teams with large asset libraries: agents reuse translation memories, term bases and Style Guides you already maintain.
- Companies with many content sources: more than 200 integrations cover CMSs, design tools, help desks and marketing platforms.
- Teams already using AI coding or chat tools: the MCP server lets Claude Desktop, Cursor and Codex work with Phrase directly.
- Brands that localize video as well as text: Phrase Studio applies the same assets to subtitles and dubbing in 130 languages.
Small Businesses Translating a Few Documents
- Small businesses with occasional translation needs: a $525 to $1,245 monthly plan may be more than a few documents a month need.
- Buyers who want one simple meter: Phrase counts words, MT units, AI units and workflow actions separately.
- Teams that want every sentence reviewed by a person: the agents are designed to keep people off most segments, and a human-first service may suit better.
- Organizations sensitive to price rises: the Team plan rose about 19% in 2026, and upper tiers are quoted.
- Teams needing a general business agent: Phrase works on language content, not CRM or email tasks.
AI Unit Definitions and Other Contract Checks
- AI unit definitions: the pricing page lists AI units for each plan without saying what one unit buys. Ask for a written definition.
- Word counting: a Capterra reviewer reported that quotas counted uploaded words rather than translated ones. Check how repetitions and matches are counted.
- Renewals and billing: several reviewers describe renewals after cancellation. Diary the notice period on annual contracts.
- QA tuning: users say automated QA checks flag irrelevant issues, so tune Quality Profiles before trusting them to route work.
- Price changes: PricingSaaS logged the Team plan moving from $1,045 to $1,245 a month in April 2026. Lock in renewal terms where you can.
- Production safeguards: Zero-Touch Localization commits translations to your branch, so keep code review or a staging step for user-facing releases.
New APIs and Wider MCP Support in June 2026

- Phrase’s June 2026 launch added Zero-Touch Localization, formality control in Phrase Next GenMT and 42% faster Figma syncing.
- On April 6, 2026, PricingSaaS recorded a Team plan increase from $1,045 to $1,245 a month billed annually.
- On June 11, 2025, Phrase launched its Agentic Content System with a context-aware translation agent, an automated post-editing agent and Phrase Studio for audio and video.
Rated 7.2 for Teams Localizing Software at Volume
For teams that localize software and content at volume, yes. Phrase AI Agents score 8.6/10 on our scale, with high marks for integrations and autonomy with pricing clarity and published security detail as the areas to grow. The agents do real work: they translate, post-edit, score and, in the case of Zero-Touch Localization, commit finished strings to your code without a human step. The integration list and MCP server make it easier than most rivals to feed content in and pull results out.
The trade-off is a bill with many moving parts. A Team plan at $14,940 a year covers 2.5 million processed words, but AI units, workflow actions and video are metered too, and the price rose $2,400 a year in 2026. Use the 14-day trial on a real release, count the AI units it consumes and ask for renewal caps before committing to a year.
